Watched the TV ad, my daughter thought it looked amazing, I got it for her, she was bored after an hour, it sat gathering dust. I think I was more entertained. From what I have seen the alternatives are probably better, don't buy the bowl, just buy the fish, over priced and not worth it!
Sorry RoboFish

Not sure what I expected when purchasing this, but my son had been excited about this from seeing adverts!
He was bored within a day or 2. Think twice on this

But you won't be surprised that once kids have one they'll want to collect more so maybe order another one or two at the same time to keep up your sleeve for when the initial novelty of one starts to wear off.

Rubbish... batteries last for one bath then I haven't been able to replace batteries successfully. Waste of money wish I'd never bought these

I feel the need to review this/these product(s) from an objective point of view given some of the short sighted and nieve reviews currently posted.

Prior to reading my response/review, I should point out that I am a keen naturalist and also a web developer that has a necessary awarness of the latest technologies and therefore well bersed in what my children should and should not be exposed to.

I bought the RoboFish aquarium and an extra fish for my 7 year old's Christmas present. She loves anything and everything 'nature' and fell in love with these fish. They come supplied with batteries (fish food) installed, but these don't last very long (not a great surprise), but extra batteries were/are included. These fish have been happily swimming around on the coffee table for the past week and have the mesmarizing qualities of real fish or an open fire (both of which we are lucky to have), but these have not taken second place. We are off to the garden center to purchase plastic weed and ornaments with which to adorne the bowl next weekend.

I get to see my daughter every other weekend, so this is the perfect alertnative to the real thing (we remove the fish at bedtime to save the batteries, which is a little disturbing, as the fish tails flip for a few seconds when removed from the bowl and slowly dwindle whilst drying out on a sheet of kitchen roll!). Needless to say, they burst into life when placed into the water the following morning.

Forget the tablets, iPads, PlayBoxWii's and Kindles... Children should be Children for as long as they can. They should be aware and exposed to current and new technology, but not immerrsed into it - and that is why this product works. It gives them an introduction to animals and pets (and therefore responsibility), without the 'reponsibilty', with movement, technology, cuteness and a degree of interactivity.

The aquarium set is, admittedly, a lttle overpriced considering all you get is the clown fish and a bowl. In theory, you could buy a RoboFish and source a plastic container elsewhere for far less, but the bowl is flexi plastic and therefore safe - unlike a glass fishbowl...

Like I said, I grew up as a 'wannabe' Gerald Durrell, with vivariums and aquariums full of lizards, tree frogs and fish, so, as an 'every-other-weekend' father, this is a brilliant alternative - my daughter loves them and they are mesmerising in their simplicity. She is saving her money for a shark as neither of us are sure how a shark will integrate with the 'normal' fish - it may be that we have to banish the shark to it's own Ice Cream tub aquarium if it misbehaves!!!

And to those who were disappointed that the fish weren't actually 20cm in size - check the details - the bowl is 20cm - not the fish. If you were expecting a 20cm clown fish, go back to school and study - if you want bigger fish, subscribe to RoboFish - they will be the first to let you know when the Rainbow Trout and river system is available, as well as the limited edition Koi Carp with it's 6 meter plastic pool and filter system...

Te RoboFish aquarium (bowl) has also proved to be a great eco system - our oldest cat uses the bowl as a source of hydration, and one of our youngest cats exercises it's neck muscles daily by watching the fish swim round and around and around...

...they are a bit of fun for a few pounds/euros but my daughter will love them for much longer than that... People are expecting too much these days. What did you get for Christmas when you were 7? I'll bet it was nothing like this...!!!

My daughter asked for this for her 7th Birthday. I wasn't sure how good it would be but I was pleasantly surprised. She has 2 fish in one bowl and at a glance you would think they were real fish. They only work in the water so no turning on or off required. They flip their tails to move through the water. The tail will flip slowly one minute and then more vigorously the next just like a real fish! Just take them out of the water, dry them off and they go to sleep! Perfect pets.

My 5 year old nephew loves it! Means he can have a fish without the worry of him not feeding it! A little messy with the water as he tried to put other toys in as well!
