Terrible catch phrases, great stories
on 3 August 2013
As an avid Coast watcher from Down Under, I pre-ordered this title as soon as I saw it because there was no certainty when/if it would be aired in Australia. When it arrived, I was disappointed to find Nicholas Crane as the main presenter, because I knew what I was in for - a dire script full of long, sometimes flowery (or rhyming) sentences and lots of walking toward, along and away from the camera. I was correct - by the end of each episode, I was ready to throw something at the screen each time I reheard the catch phrase from that episode - pleasure/ leisure (by the seaside) for example. However, if I tuned out the script and concentrated on the interesting stories, the old joy in Coast returned. The other presenters were interesting and easy to listen to, each with a unique perspective to offer. As always, they found something new and interesting to highlight in the story of the British coastline. So, overall, it was still worth the purchase. But it could have been better....
