5.0 out of 5 stars So good it is startling
This is Victorian science fiction so there are some parts which are a bit flashy but I'm not kidding when I say that the invisible man is one of the best characters ever written. This book is a very quick read. I can see how it was used to inspire many other works of fiction, as it has some excellent ideas running through it.
The writing is overly simple at first, then seems to get into its stride as the story progresses. The torment of the protagonist is clear and you do begin to sympathise with his plight.
If you're looking ofr an introduction to HG Wells' work though, I'd say The Time Machine is much, much better.

5.0 out of 5 stars So good it is startling, 26 July 2013

This is Victorian science fiction so there are some parts which are a bit flashy but I'm not kidding when I say that the invisible man is one of the best characters ever written. He is a powder keg of rage but also a truly brilliant scientist, a lost man trying to gain control of his but truly is not able. It is not that he keeps making bad choices when the other is clearly available to him like Max Payne, you get a sense of the invisible man as a tragic protagonist. His blind rage and inability to stay calm in times of adversity give a sense of a man trapped by circumstance.

I am not kidding or being overly enthusiastic when I say for something you will rarely ever see done so well outside of Shakespeare. Get this book, it is only a couple of quid.

I read this book in two days in between exam session and was far more interested in it than my grades, if that is not the sign of a good book I don't know what is.

A nice classic book.
Slightly gruesome end though.

I would recommend if you like Wells, but try other books like War of the worlds

As yet I've not read it,but at the moment I seem to be reading a lot of Victorian novels and I've previously read War of the Worlds and enjoyed that.
