4.0 out of 5 stars My kind of story
Plenty of action, interesting characters, definitely my kind of book for light, bedtime reading. First of this series I have read but I have now bought the others.

I like Gilstrap as an author and have written positive reviews about his books previously. This one misses the standard of his best by a long margin, in my view.

3.0 out of 5 stars Action-packed, but little intrigue, 7 Aug 2013
This review is from: High Treason (A Jonathan Grave Thriller) (Kindle Edition)
I like Gilstrap as an author and have written positive reviews about his books previously. This one misses the standard of his best by a long margin, in my view.

There are an awful lot of unlikely ingredients here as Jonathan Grave, a private security consultant, who is well-regarded, well-equipped and well-connected, manages a hostage rescue mission. His side kick is "Big Guy", but there are a number of other improbable helpers. One is a journalist who just happens to know how to shoot extremely well. The target location is in another country and the team appears to have no trouble getting an extensive munitions supply across the border to carry out its work.

You will really need to let the imagination run and be pretty unquestioning if you are to enjoy the book. You may get the picture if I tell you a lead character is the Russian-born First Lady of the U. S., who is a night-clubbing grandmother. And most will also wonder if it could really be possible that the assembled bunch would be charged with such a nation-saving role. There are many more examples, but I want to avoid throwing in spoilers.

Too many typos for my liking in the Kindle version too, but I have not reflected that problem in my rating.

This is an action-packed read but, despite a late twist, the novel has virtually no intrigue or mystery. In other words, more A-Team stuff than a challenge for readers. This is especially true of the second half of the book.

The amazon.com reviews are more generous than mine, so readers may care to wander over there for alternative views.

Quite boring really, nowhere as as engrossing as a Baldacci or Grossman ,had that feeling that the author made out up as he typed

As other reviewers have said this story is too silly for words. The presidents wife was a Russian terrorist. WHAT?
The White house was blowing up aircraft so the president could get another term in office. WHAT?
The Russians had a plan to destroy America by blowing up infrastructure WHAT?
The team take along two journalists on the mission. WHAT?
The team take the grandmother presidents wife, who leaps into moving boats. WHAT?

I have no idea what Gilstrap was taking when he wrote this one.
Save your money its the worst book he has written.
