5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant anthology for a brilliant artist, 12 April 2013

This anthology was the first time I'd ever gotten around to checking out Goldie. And my, what an introduction. It really demonstrates what a genius he still is, and it's full of great tracks that to this day haven't been matched the same way by anyone making drum and bass music.

The first CD is perfect as it demonstrates how much production variety, emotion and drama he was able to pack into the relatively straight-forward DnB genre, and many of the tracks are still great bangers today ('Terminator' is a particularly unique track with it's mind-warping, constant time shifts). The second disc focuses more on his more atmospheric side, opening with a really solid new track in the form of 'Single Petal of a Rose', and plenty of soul on songs like 'Freedom' and 'State of Mind', which is helped hugely by some great female vocalists. And the lack disc consists mostly of remixes or alternative versions of other Goldie tracks, including an unfortunately inferior version of Inner City Life in the form of Baby Boy's Edit.

But nonetheless, this is a brilliant summary of Goldie's now 2 decade spanning career and has definitely inspired me to check out the rest of his catalog. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nostalgic and New, 21 July 2013

I still remember the feeling of listening to Timeless on cassette in my parents' Mazda in the early 1990s, and this album brings it all back. It doesn't get much better than 3 x CDs of Goldie - your get the familiar classics mixed with the more recent and a few unexpected niche mixes. It all sounds fresh and far beyond many of the wannabes who have come along since. Production is excellent.

I absolutely love this album. There are some stunning tunes on here - Monkey Boy, Sometime Sad Day and Shanghai Dub stand out as being really special tunes.

There are some very questionable songs on here as well though - but don't worry, they're on the remix section (disc 3) - not Goldie's own work. The worst has to be either Baby Boy's remix of inner city life (there is absolutely no reason in the world to remix this piece of work - you only need one version of this - the full length one on Goldie's Timeless album. The other contender for worst song of the collection is possibly Digital remixed by Armand Van Helden - the Yanks don't get drum and bass - they might like it - but they can't make it and they certainly don't know how to remix it. AVH is a great house DJ and has turned out some fantastic songs and remixes....but this ain't one of them.

That said, there is a Goldie remix of Swallowed by Bush, which is knock out - it's not just the best song of all the remixes, it's one of the best of the compilation!

If you like anything that you've ever heard of Goldie, then buy this - you'll be happy - then get some big, over ear headphones turn out your lights, lie on your sofa / bed and listen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Goldie is an inspiration to millions!, 11 July 2013

Suprisingly enough, Goldie is one of the biggest influences in both the Arts and the Music industry, He's just so over shadowed by the more obnoxious and obtrusive media hounds that run the industries.

The Album spans 20 years of his most important and influenctial work. for those who know of him and his music will love it, remember he's not just about making Drum & Bass music its about the art form that is music! everything from classical thruogh to rock, everything is in this album.

Love Him or Hate Him he is still more talented than 99% of the people in the music industry today!!!!

I have a couple of other Goldie albums and it is great to have one of the first artists of this type of music in my collection. Worth getting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not a money spinner, 5 May 2013

This collection is not just a bunch of tracks thrown together. It is a well thought out career highlight, not a list of available tracks thrown together to raise a few quid.
Well worth the money. Good for new listeners or veterans alike.

Worth buying for classic cuts such as menace, darkrider, in my soul. This is quite simply an excellent collection there are a few omissions that I would have liked to have heard on here but as a whole the 3CD collection is outstanding

4.0 out of 5 stars Best bang for your buck, 3 CDs of classic dnb., 17 April 2013
This is a great collection of song for anyone into or even just curious about drum & bass. Do not be fooled by the clown on the tv, goldie is a talented musician, he and his metalheads label have always been synonymous with top quality production. If you've been into goldie for a while you'll probably have heard most of these tunes before, hence the 4 stars, but as a collection of dnb tunes you can't do much better.
