This review is from: Marie Kroyer (Marie Krøyer) (2012) (Import) (DVD)
Søren and Marie Krøyer are two painters who are the main players in this period drama. We follow the difficult relationship that Marie has with Søren and the surprising repercussions that fall upon Marie.
With an excellent cast, the three main performers Birgitte Hjort Sørensen, Søren Sætter-Lassen and Sverrir Gudnason stand out for their talentaed portrayals of three complicated people. Set mainly in Denmark with a few scenes in Sweden and mostly in Danish (with one character speaking in Swedish throughout), the film is supplied with English subtitles.
Birgitte Hjort Sørensen will be familiar to Borgen: Series 1 & 2 [DVD] viewers as journalist Katrine Fønsmark. Also the star of Julie - en kamp om kærlighed and a minor role in The Candidate ( Kandidaten ), Birgitte is fantastic in the title role of Marie. Søren Sætter-Lassen starred as politician Mogens Rank in the final series of The Killing - Series 1-3 [DVD] and is convincing here as the disturbed Søren Krøyer.
A very good film lasting just over an hour an a half which flew by. I'll certainly be re-watching this sometime soon.

This review is from: Marie Kroyer (Marie Krøyer) (2012) (Import) (DVD)
I have always been interested in Kroyers work after living in Denmark for several years. I didn't realise to what an extent how he lived with this mental illness that has afflicted so many artists who strive for perfection. This is the story of the wife who stood by him for so long but in the end could not cope with his 'sygdom'. This in the end drove her into the arms of another. The title role is eloquently played by Birgitte Hjort Sorensen, who will be familiar to those who watched the recent Borgen. As for the scenery, it's totally Skagen.
