I have no illusions about Martin's Song of Ice and Fire: five books so far, each of approximately the same size as the rest, pointing rather to a publisher's deal for producing novels of specific word-number requirements. So, Martin's narrrative tends to be boring on occasion, verbose and little to the point. His story+plotline is a whole other thing. And then you have his multitude of characters: two-dimensional mostly, but oddly enough you learn to like the heroes and love to hate the villains. Most importantly, the borders between righteousness and villainy are sometimes blurred.
This special hardcover edition is gorgeous, nonetheless, and it was delivered to me within 5 days of placing the order, which was a most welcome surprise.
