JJ Grey and Mofro just get better and better and I think that this album is their best yet. With a singer like JJ Grey you can't really go wrong, he's got a strong, very emotional voice and can rock out on songs like "Floribama" and "Your lady, she's shady" but he can also really sell the ballads like the title track and "Write a letter" and he works great in combination with the back-up singers. The band also support him superbly with the brass section being totally intergrated into the sound rather than just being an add-on and I find their sound really original, with elements of rock, soul and blues but a really modern, almost rap-like, twist. There is lots of variety here from the 'throwaway' funky numbers to serious ballads but the band also have a really recognisable style - and they have produced a really great album. Be sure to catch them on one of their summer 2013 British festival appearances...

I stumbled across this album by accident and am incredibly glad I did. If you can imagine what might have happened if Creedence Clearwater revival had amalgamated with Lynyrd Skynyrd, hooked up with booker T and the MGs and then got Dr John in to sing for them, then you might get somewhere to appreciating what is on offer here. By appropriating many different though recognisably "southern" styles JJ Grey and Mofro have come up with a new take on some old themes.
In one word? Gnarly!

I thought I did not rate this Blues/Soul C/D although I own JJ Grey C/Ds going back to the initial output. However I read Mr Harrisons review of this C/D and as I have agreed with him on previous purchases I decided to give it another consideration and I am glad I did. I have always been a bit of an electric Blues guitar afficiando but you cannot beat this mans voice and the backing musicians will have you foot tapping and generally letting the feel good factor of the whole album wash over you. Not a duff track throughout and well worth a listen I may have to consider his Ol Glory a little more but I do feel this is better

Brilliant CD, they really love to perform. I can't understand why this band is not more popular. Please come back to the UK soon. My girlfriend loves JJ Grey's voice.

If you`re into the Blues/Soul, or similar, and want something a bit different, try this. It is terrific.JJ Grey has a brilliant voice, and that, coupled with great song-writing and a tight band, make this a gem.( apologies to other singers on album - great also !).

Not up to the standards of earlier albums. I got a sense of 'swamp rock by numbers' in the first track and one or two others. JJ Grey & Mofro can do better. Disappointing.
