5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Example of ECM Piano Jazz
A very good, lyrical and complex album. It definitely recalls John Taylor, Enrico Pieranunzi and Bill Evans, but Guidi and his trio
have their own particular take on that sound. Each player helps create an impressive weave. It may be on the quiet side for
some. It is better for listening with close attention, but I really enjoy it each time I hear it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great in parts
Beautiful and arresting in parts, such as the title track, but lacks the consistency of, for instance, Benedikt Jahnel's Equilibrium, which is an outstanding piano-based ECM album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Disc of beautiful dreams, 14 April 2013
This review is from: City of Broken Dreams (Audio CD)
This beautiful recording, Guidi's first lead release for ECM, deserves recognition and confirms ms him as a major talent and the emergence of another first rate piano trio onto the stage. Guidi's playing is evocative, understated and best displayed on the opening title track and closing variation thereof and, in particular, "the Forbidden Zone" whose simplicity is utterly beguiling. The restless "No Other Possibility" is an ambitious attempt to vary the mood but with mixed results but normal service is resumed thereafter. Fans of jazz, piano trios and ECM music should not hesitate. Highly recommended.

Wonderful , inventive , soulful playing on this recording .Giudi has the subtle touch and clarity of a classical pianist with some serious chops ! He sure gets a gorgeous ringing sound out of his piano. I also really enjoyed the subtle use of tempo changes (rubato) this trio uses throughout this recording. Beautifully recorded too. This recording and the Colin Vallon recording "Le Vent " are the 2 top Jazz trio recordings I've purchased thus far in 2014.

This cool limpid music owes a lot to the Modern Jazz Quartet and similar groups. This is. Very good cd.
