Does Jamaican music det any better than this?
on 7 March 2013
Before the dreads ambushed reggae for themselves in the 70's,This was the sound of a young Jamaica, during the hot summer of 1966,the beat was slowed down from the full on in your face SKA to a totally different style, the soulful sound of rocksteady, with a beat to match your heart.
For a fiver, this is a steal,40 awesome tracks, cleaned up by Trojan records, and considering these were cut nearly 50 years ago on primitive 2 track recording, sounding as sweet as ever.
If your a fan of Rocksteady you will know most ,if not all of these tracks, but if your into Bob Marley, roots reggae etc. and would like an insight into the early years of Jamaican music, post ska, this is the thing for you.
There isn't a duff track on here, great vocals, superb soulful harmonising, and instrumentals of the highest quality,2 CD's of this quality for a fiver, you'd be mad not to.
