The book is an effort of an enthusiast - someone touched through personal and professional life by the products of British Leyland over decades. It covers all the brands that eventually merged into BL but largely over their complete lifetimes and not just the BL period. Each brand gets some history and the main cars produced are covered, too. At the same time there is a general introduction, which somehow just peters out, before much analysis on the whole BL construct takes place.

The book also has some pictures - these are sadly not annotated, so one needs to know what is in them (from prior knowledge), especially since not all are placed exactly where the models are described in the text.

So - who is the intended audience? Given that the author covers the whole industrial / management side of things very lightly, I would say primarily people, who like the author have been touched by the products through their lives, as well as people generally interested in British cars from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s (the 80s are covered only briefly).

If the development of the company is of interest, British Leyland: Chronicle of a Car Crash 1968-1978 is a much better bet.

Certainly worth reading if you're interested in British cars and the demise of a once proud industry at the hands of bloody-minded trades unions and workers, ill-conceived and developed cars and incompetent management unwilling to take on the unions, thus handing successful development and manufacture of cars to Germany and Japan.
Downsides? The usual large crop of Kindle spelling and punctuation errors - does no-one proof read?

Very informative, even if writing style is a bit clunky at times. Would have liked more pictures of the vehicles.
Even so, a worthwhile read for those interested in the ups and the final downs of British Leyland.

Fantastic book, I'm very interested in the history of the British car industry and this book covers so many different companies which at one point became the giant BL machine
