Awesome little Platformer
on 26 May 2015
Awesome little Platformer with buckets of charm and detail. This game's awesome, especially when playing with three other players as the levels can for the most part be quite fast paced and hectic depending on how you want to play and who it is you're playing with. Essentially the main goal through a typical level is to free the Electoons (Little pink creatures with blond pony-tails) of which there will be 6 to get in each level. The first 3 are within there cages that you'll have to seek out as you make progress through a level with another 2 being rewarded to you depending on how many Lums you collect (Little yellow things that float) which are scattered in great numbers throughout, the more you get the better. The last Electoon is rewarded via a time trial where you blast you way through the level as fast as you can, ignoring every collectible and enemy that may slow you down, reminded me a lot of Crash Bandicoot 3 with those Time Relics.
But this goes back to when I mentioned the pace depends on how you play, Make sure when you're paying with a friend that you both agree on the same play style, either take it slow and try and hunt down every Electoon or have a joy-ride and play through the levels as you see fit as long as you're having a blast. This is important because the combat is particularly slapstick with friendly fire, meaning expect to get real angry with your siblings and friends when they slap you off the stage. In that respect playing solo will for the most part be easier to collect the Lums as you'll be moving at your own pace and will be less likely to miss anything.
The art style is fantastic with every environment and world having it's own unique colour palette and feel. The soundtrack matches or even surpasses that with a sound that you WON'T hear from any other game, making it unforgettable months after playing the damn thing.
Through a world you will also encounter a Nymph (Fairy) who has been caged and once freed will entitle you with a new power or ability which will open more platforming choices in the levels and words to come.
As you gradually build up Electoons you will also gradually unlock skins for you to change into in the 'Snoring Tree' (Your main hub). Although just bear in mind that they're just skins and there isn't anything too overwhelming in that department. Actually my main quarrel with this game is that you're given three characters that have a set amount of skins to unlock, but with a game that has been some-what been built around 4-player co-op, why no fourth character? (This was improved in the sequel 'Rayman Legends').
Over 60 levels 246 Total Electoons
4 player co-op (Online or Local) 10 skull teeth (Every world will have a 'Tricky Treasure' race ...they're amazing :P)
6 major boss battles (few minor ones) 16 Total skins
Hope this helps you in some way,
Have fun! I did
