A thoroughly enjoyable read which picked up on what people were suffering during WWII, even out of the line of attack here in the UK, and in the aftermath. A healthy amount of joy and romance and the beginnings of change in people's attitudes and outlook on life - with inevitably the older generation struggling with the very thought of that change and its implications.

Believable characters and wonderful storyline truly drew me in. Probably helped that I was able to visualise the surroundings as familiar with Dundee

I am a great follower of the ladies writing. All of the books I bought have been so true to life. Memories of my childhood.

This is the 2nd book I have read by Maureen Reynolds, and although I am not quite that old to remember the worst of the war years (only just, but I do remember rationing). This book shows how hard the war years were, and the affect on relationships, and how people coped, although this book can show peoples suffering, it has its its brighter side, and shows how families helped each other. I enjoyed it.
