The last in the Tuigan "Horsemen" trilogy, this book focuses on King Azoun IV and his Court as the King assembles an alliance against the invading Tuigan formed of neighbouring Kingdoms and Empires forces backed by their money in some cases, including forces drawn from the then-powerful Zhentil Keep at a cost. The Steel Princess of Cormyr makes her first appearance after years away from Cormyr fighting as an Adventurer to fight with an army of Dwarves against the Tuigan, leading to a tense reunion with her father, while Vandgerdahast does his best to deflect or deal with any and all threats to Azoun as various forces make attempts to stop the Kings plans or derail them. As the last book in the trilogy obviously the final battle is fought in it, but the lead-up is well done and the book can be seen as a direct lead-in to the Cormyr trilogy for completists. I actually think, from these books, it's a shame the Tuigan never reappeared as a real force in the Forgotten Realms.
