I have always loved this extraordinary work, and regard the performances by the great Czech conductors (especially Talich and Bélohlávek) with passion and significant awe. My favourite version on CD, however is the really deeply felt performance by the Oregon Bach Festival Orchestra and Choir, directed by Helmuth Rilling, including Quasthoff's urgent and compelling bass in the fourth track on CD1, "fac, ut ardeat cor meum". The pace of the whole work is perfectly judged throughout, and the recorded sound is first class. The balance and musical intelligence amongst the quartet of soloists is exemplary. The discipline of the Bach Choir really showing its class in this work which sometimes (IMO) sounds overly operatic in similar way to the Verdi Requiem.
I particularly love the clarity and transparency of the sound, which is never tiring or muddled throughout the 2CD performance. Respect is due to Helmuth Rilling for pulling this all together so seamlessly.
This album is really worth considering, even if one already has the great Talich 1950s recording and any of the Bélohlávek versions from 1991 onwards.

Extraordinary performance and interpretation: orchestra, chorus and soloists. Clean registration. For who wants to get to know Dvorak and his spiritual inner self (considering the experiences that brought him to produce this "capo lavoro")
