Noir plays with its title genre, and gets up to some interesting things. The story, the setting, and the characters all have a realism that rings true and yet manage to evoke--and, in some ways, subvert--the traditional noir tropes. A good, engaging read.

A great short read enticingly written with a taut plot. The images it projects and the turns it takes linger for further savouring and unpicking long after finishing reading. Great value too, more like this please.

I am not a lover of short stories but this is just superb. I was hooked from the first sentence . You can tell all is not well . The slowly building tension had me gripped throughout and the ending - ooooh.I was left wanting more.

"Noir" is a great read: suspenseful, witty, lyrical, full of fast changes, and at the same time with something serious to say about politics, about erotic love, about style. Linda Mannheim is a masterful writer: her observations of the lush but sinister particulars of South Florida are vividly precise, her one-liners are delicious and straight to the point, and she deepens the game with every sentence.

Linda Mannheim's Noir is a fun read set in 1980's Florida. It captures the dark moody side of the "Sunshine State".

NOIR captured my attention from the opening, and wouldn't let me go until I reached the shock of an ending. This is a compelling piece of short fiction with characters that remained in my thoughts. The stifling setting of 1980s Miami is almost a character in itself; Mannheim uses the unique location to create a scenario not unlike the film noir type of movie to which she refers in the title.

I really enjoyed this one. It's well paced, has characters I care
about, nice twists to keep me on my toes, and a realism that whisked
me off to the tropical heat of Miami where I could feel the violent
undertone of the 80s. I was looking for an escape and a thrill, both
of which I found, but I was particularly happy to discover that this
story is beautifully written, with depth and subtlety.

I've read a lot of crime thrillers lately. This one felt very contrived with over-elaborate character building and a pretty unbelievable plot.

It was ok, it started to get going and then ended abruptly. Pity, it felt like it was going somewhere.

This little book really does make me appreciate the importance of a good editor. The author makes a failed attempt at what, at first sight, looks to be a cheap genre but noir is so much more. Probably couldn't do any better myself though.
