Now you can see it as it was really meant to be. I've had an old, scrubby, VHS-derived copy for some time, but it looks and sounds tired. This re-release by Jan Lehman is a fantastic, high-quality version of the original film with additional material included. OK, this was filmed in 1992, but for us oldies... just close your eyes briefly and it's the 1962 folk scene again. In fact it will resound for all ages. Bert's music comes across as strong as ever and all the contributors remind us how things really changed once Bert appeared on the scene. Many of the numbers are now restored to full-length and there are several extra pieces not in the original release. Altogether a magnificent eulogy. Don't miss it.

This excellent documentary, presented by Billy Connolly, is a study mainly of the folk guitar legend Bert Jansch, but the light it sheds on his contemporaries, his influences and the general scene at the time is extraordinary.
Billy Connolly is not just a familiar face here - he really loves this stuff, and his enthusiasm comes across when he speaks and plays with some of the musicians featured.
Bert's genius and modesty really shine through this, and you are treated to conversations and performances from such giants as Davy Graham, Wizz Jones, Archie Fisher and Hamish Imlach.
This is the first official DVD release of this wonderful programme, and it's really not to be missed!

Bert Jansch was a guitar legend and he wrote many beautiful songs. I have given Acoustic Routes DVD a 5 star rating because it is lovely to see Bert talking about his musical journey and meet some other guitar legends along the way. He had happy memories and some sad all captured in this DVD.Brownie Mcgee, Davey Graham, Ralph Mctell, Wizz Jones and many more musicians are featured in this DVD. First light is performed by Bert and John Renbourne and is the most beautiful piece of music I have ever heard! I would have liked to have seen Bert live but unfortunately he passed away in 2011 so owning the DVD is lovely. If you like Bert jansch or like to watch some very good guitar playing this is for you.

What a superb movie this is! Bert Jansch is the focus and the irrepressible and thoroughly knowledgeable Billy Connelly giving his view of the scene and linking the different musicians, is pretty much perfect. The mighty Bert Jansch is more talkative than usual and the wonderful array of excellent and talented folkies are witty, honest and all great to watch. Most of them are there - Ralph McTell, Davy Graham, the stunning Wizz Jones, Martin Carthy, Anne Briggs (Yes! She who is so reclusive.), the tragic Jackson Frank, the various Pentangles, together with the first-hand stories of Paul Simon and Bob Dylan coming in to the UK to soak up everything musical like the sponges they were. It all very entertaining and paints a marvellous picture of the culture and the times. Topping it all is Bert's guitar - peerless it is. That said, the other names mentioned are not exactly far behind; they're all masters. Worth every one of those stars.

A fantastic film for sure with many terrific performances and most welcome expansion, however the one thing they did do that is not so great was to take the original 4.3 picture and crop it to 16.9. I compared my Tv recorded DVD from BBC rebroadcast about 10 years ago (which of course does not look or sound as crisp as this DVD) and you can see what's missing. It looks like everything is to close through much of it. A shame to marr what could have been perfect

It's thirty years since this programme was broadcast on TV and, whilst it may have lost some of its original impact in the current YouTube era, it's still great. Excellent camera work and sound. An absolute must for Bert's fans.

Had the original TV show on video for years but made the mistake of giving someone a loan of it!. This DVD is a great replacement with some very good additions to the original. So good I bought my brother one as well. He loves it as well.

Very enjoyable - Bert was a favourite both as a solo artist and with Pentangle. The contributions from other musicians was fascinating.

A proper trawl through one of the greats story.
It also manages to be not mawkish or a collection of talking luvvie's.

Bert's gone and so have many of the places where he played and sang. But ACOUSTIC ROUTES takes you back there, with Bert's great performances, Billy Connolly's loving and witty introductions, and fine contributions from a galaxy of stars from Folk's heyday. The whole production is beautifully packaged and tremendous value. A great present - I was first given this and then bought it as a gift for a friend. So if you're looking for something special for an acoustic music fan, I humbly suggest you look no further.
