5.0 out of 5 stars Holmes The Sequel, 11 Jun. 2013

This review is from: The Reigate Poisoning: Concluded (The Dispatch Box of John H Watson, MD) (Kindle Edition)
Having read The Reigate Poisoning immediately before it, I was intrigued to find out why the author felt the need to revisit the story given what appeared to be a satisfactory conclusion.

The cynic would no doubt suggest that he was justifying a glaring error made first time round but I fully believe he has been cleverer than that. Much cleverer.

This is an outstanding story and works in it's use as a sort of addendum to the first. The plot is complex but ingenious and the plan hatched by the principal character, Mme Montpensier, rivals anything Moriarty could have devised to fool Holmes. More than rivals because Holmes was indeed completely duped. A first I think.

Highly recommended but ensure you read The Reigate Poisoning first which is narrated in Notes From The Dispatch Box Of... and is easily the best of the three short tales in there.

A very satisfying Sherlock Holmes yarn.
