This review is from: In the Spirit of Duke (Audio CD)
I heard a track from this CD on Jazz Line-up. The playing and sound quality were both top-class, and this brilliant band is full of top names, including leader Tommy Smith and pianist Brian Kellock, who sounds amazingly like Ellington. The whole CD is well up with the standard of the track I had already heard, and I really love this CD.
Highly recommended, and I hope it leads to purchases of other Scottish National Jazz Orchestra CDs, and there's plenty of good quality Ellington to buy. One of the hallmarks of 'Spirit of Duke' is that the recording acoustic sound very like an Ellington recording. Duke was always very fussy about sound quality to enhance the amazing playing.

Well the SNJO have released another album, and this time a tribute the the great DUKE ELLINGTON.

What can I say about this album, sublime, superb, SO SNJO.

If you want to know what the SNJO and it's leader Tommy Smith are about then get this album, sit back and let the music take you on a journey through some of the greatest jazz music ever written.

Cannot wait to see SNJO again soon, for my money, they are the best JAZZ ORCHESTRA playing in the world today. But don't take my word for it, go and see them for yourself and be swept away by the talent that is the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra...

Not quite as good as the real thing, but eqally stirring.

Reccomend for any "Duke" fan.

Fabulous cd. Do hope the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra go on and record another cd of ellington's music. Especially enjoyed Daybreak Express and Diminuendo and Crescendo in Blue. The interpretation of the Master's music is a great listen.

Absolutely wonderful tribute to Duke Ellington. I recommend this to all jazz lovers. I look forward to 'In the Spirit of the Count', etc, perhaps?
