5.0 out of 5 stars A great introduction to high end photography, 11 July 2013
This review is from: Samsung NX300 schwarz Kit + 18-55 i-Function + SEF-8A (Electronics)
I have been using this camera for around a week now, and as Samsung quite rightly say, it's a "smart camera" and it really does do exactly what it says on the box.

I had been looking to take the leap from compact camera to full on DSLR, but with all of the information, reviews, variety of lenses etc available, I found the whole thing a bit daunting. Then along came the NX300. As a complete novice, it's ready to go straight out of the box. Just put it on auto, and point and click. I guarantee you that 90% of the time you will get terrific results. It also has several "smart modes" where you can choose the type of subject you want to shoot, and it sets the camera up automatically for optimised settings.

A really neat feature is "Best Face" which actually takes 5 different shots in succession, and allows you to pick the best one. How many times have you taken a photo of someone just as they blink? This feature eliminates such things, and much more besides.

For the more experienced photographer, there are many manual modes to choose from, so that you have a lot more control over the pictures that you wish to take. All of these modes are selected from the familiar dial. Another really great feature is the AMOLED touch screen. You can go through the menus on the screen with a swipe, or by using a jog dial on the top of the camera. When taking a photo though, you can use "Touch AF" whereby the camera will focus automatically on the portion of the screen you've just told it to. This means you can rapidly swap focus between background or foreground depending on your subject.

The only real problem I came across with the screen, was it is practically useless in direct sunlight, and not having a viewfinder only exacerbates that. In bright sunlight you may have to take a gamble, as you might have trouble seeing what the camera sees.

The camera is equipped with WiFi which you can link directly to your PC using the software provided, or to your iOS/Android device via the free app available. It can also post directly to Facebook and Windows Live. This means you can take a picture on your camera, transfer it to your mobile device, and upload it to all of your social networking sites with very little effort.

All in all, this is an extremely good all round camera, and while it might lack some of the features of the really high end DSLRs on the market, it can certainly hold it's own against the entry level/mid-range ones. For anyone looking to upgrade from a compact camera to a more professional camera, then I can think of no better product than this one. It's intuitive to use from the start, and accompanied with the very comprehensive handbook, it will allow you to explore the world of photography in greater detail. Or of course, you could just stick with the point and click approach.

Bundled with the kit is a hot shoe micro flash, which is good enough for most tasks, and the full version of Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4, and with a great choice of additional lenses on the market, it's more than enough to compare with a DSLR, but small enough to carry around without too much trouble. In terms of versatility and usability, I really cannot fault it at all.
