5.0 out of 5 stars Power metal masterpiece from Austrian metalheads, 1 April 2013

As a long time Serenity fan i was really thrilled when they anaunced their 4th studio album, so i preordered it as soon as it became available here on amazon, and i have to say that this is by far one of the best albums i own or haver ever heard.
This limited edition of the album contains 12 songs (10 new songs + "Fairytales" (piano version) and cover of the Queens song "Love Of My Life")

Since their second album, Serenity have had female vocals on some of their songs, and various female musicians performed them live. Clementine Delauney was one of them, and with this album she became permanent member of this amazing band.

What i really like about this album is that it has major historical influence in every song (which was also the case with most of Serenitys previous work). So for exemple, each song is about some important history figure (Bathory,Napoleon,Henry VIII etc...)

Musically this bend seems to grow more and more with each album.
Excellent guitar work, great piano parts and big influence of classical music is just a small part of metal masterpiece that this album and bend in general is.

Buy this album without any doubts, and if you havent already heard about Serenity, then prepare to be blown away by their music.

Although new to this band I am now a confirmed fan and cant wait to hear their back catalogue. There is a depth to this cd sadly missing in most of todays `throw away` `music`,hard to believe never came across them before.

5.0 out of 5 stars Serenity hit 5 stars, 5 April 2013

This is the First Serenity album I have fully liked.
A few plays and 9 out of the 10 tracks I have listened to have been given 5 stars.
The first track sets the tone of the album,
start with a hint of grandiose and by the time the solo hits the full layers of melodious
vocals combined with symphonic metal have set the mood.
The Two Vocals blend well, both powerful and melodic Clementine Delancy and Georg Neuhauser,
and maybe this settled front has made Serenity a better listen for me.
The theme of the album is historical references to such as Napoleon, Bathory, The Tudors.
If you like Sonata Artica or Kamelot I'd check it out.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but not great, 4 May 2013

I know everyone is raving about this album but I am just a little bit disappointed by it. Its a good album, but it feels ever so slighty like an exercise in treading water and after a couple of months I am skipping a few too many tracks.

Tracks Like Wings of Madness, Age of Glory, Royal Pain are all fine and the standout is the terrific Tannenberg which is totally addictive, but Shining Oasis in particular sounds exactly like a track off their last album to the extent that I keep thinking that's what I am listening to. The ballad is a missed opportunity too, as it dies in exactly the way that "..Fairtytales" doesn't. Similarly the lyrics are a bit unoriginal in places (Art of War for example has been done by Sabaton LOL). Finally, and I know Clementine has said this was deliberate, the female vocals are underused.

Obviously the musicianship is still superb as is the production, and Georg is probably the best male vocalist out there now, but compared to some of their previous output I don't think it really stands up. Perhaps I was expecting too much but then they are one of the best live bands you can see and they have also made some of the best symphonic metal albums in recent years. I had hoped they would come up with something that would take them into the Premier League but I don't think this will unfortunately.
