This new book Campaigning Online and Winning: How LabourtStart's ActNOW Campaigns Are Making Unions Stronger makes really inspiring reading at a time when many UK grass roots trade unionists seem to be facing overwhelming odds. It details how workplace activists around the world can harness the power of social media to help achieve outstanding successes against powerful multinational employers in ways which were undreamt of even a few years ago. In all the case studies the book highlights from around the world, it is emphasised that online campaigning is just one more tool in the struggle for union recognition and workers' rights: far from displacing traditional methods of organisation, online campaigning supplements action on the ground with the virtual support of thousands of people worldwide who can help influence the outcome by making their support known to both workers in struggle and their employers. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in the labour movement worldwide and how it is adapting to the challenges of globalisation by using some of the communication products of that very process.

I found this to be simple in its approach, well founded and very effected.Perhaps more unions & workers alike will make more use of this tool.Yes I said tool, because any one can use it, then tied into other active campaigning it just what we need, in todays anti-union employers, as well as big business moral behaviour under the microscope...

I am an active trade unionist and I follow Eric Lee on line etc and support many of his campaigns. His explanation of how effective and easy it is to promote a campaign through on line petitions etc is very readable and engaging. A good buy!

This book shows how trade unions can use online campaigns as one part (but only one part) of their struggle to protect, support and fight for trade union members.
