3.0 out of 5 stars Officer class
A half decent read about that time in history of the war in the far east , although I came away thinking it was won by the officers and the ordinary blokes were there just to make the numbers up ! Not a equal telling.

Hated this load of rubbish, the hero of the story was a dreamer..Goodness knows how he would have fared during a wartime scenario ..So full of praise for himself and the story was crap start to finish

I enjoyed this book the story of a scratch Anglo Indian force outnumbered ten to one by a Japaneses division held a 1 km square of hill tops overlooked on several sides for a fortnight. The book has no political axe to grind. The cruelty and fanaticism of the Japanese needs to be understood to take a position meant killing all then Japaneses few prisoners were taken.

3.0 out of 5 stars Quite difficult to read, 16 July 2014

Reader may need a working knowledge of military 'jargon'
Abbreviations used cannot always be understood
Places named during the battle became quite confusing
