What a great compilation this is from `Ace' records (68.57mins). This is the second instalment of husband and wife song writing team `Barry Mann & Cynthia Weil' songs compiled by `Ace'. The tracks span the years 1961 to 1972. There are familiar tracks by top notch artists that most of us will own mixed in with lesser known tracks such as `Proud' by the young Johnny Crawford - great stuff, there's even a great dramatic version of `Love Him/Her' by Doris Day. There are hard to get hold of tracks on cd - such as the wonderful Len Barry version of `You Baby' and Clyde McPhatters' version of `On Broadway' from 1964. Another great track is 'Angelica' by Scott Walker (what a terrific voice). Nice to hear a pre-fame track from Slade on Fontana. The sound quality is excellent as always, it's clear, punchy and crisp, most tracks are in Stereo but there are 6 in Mono. It comes with a fantastic 24 page colour booklet that has lots of great pics and informative track by track liner notes.
Overall, this compilation is cram packed with dramatic, fantastic crafted songs by one of the greatest writing teams. There is no filler. 9/10. A must.
