Would you believe it one of the finest singer/songwriters in Country Music and else where produces an ace set of songs on his 80th Birthday. Some are obviously Country and others would not be out of place in the programme Strictly Come Dancing.. Magic!

Good old Willie - 80 at the end of the month and still going strong: touring constantly and seeming to release a new album every 6 months or so.

To my mind there are two incarnations of Willie Nelson - there's the country rebel who wants to be 'on the road again'; and there's Willie the interpreter of the classic American song book. He's done pretty well over the years with both versions and has pretty much kept the two styles apart. Recently though we've seen less of a divergence of the two Nelsons, and on this album the two styles meet head on, giving us a mix of some classic old country tracks and non-country songs.

Much as I love Mr Nelson, I can't really say this album excites me particularly. There are a few superb moments - "I Wish I Didn't Love You So" is sublime, "Matchbox" rocks out, and both "South Of The Border" and "Shame On You" swing nicely and would have sat nicely on the "Remember Me" collection from a few years back (and, PLEASE, where's volume 2 of that session??) - but on the whole it just doesn't work for me. That's not to say it doesn't sound great: the stripped back sound of the band, pretty much as you hear if you see Willie and Family play live, is nicely laid back and you really get to hear Trigger on a number of solos, and Mickey Raphael's harmonica is never far away.

What would I change about it? I think I prefer the country outlaw Willie and would prefer to hear more of those classic country songs than the 'American songbook' stuff.

So, slightly disappointing but still very much worth a listen!

of these songs - the only one I miss is 'Funny How Time Slips Away', but although I'd love to hear him singing it again, I guess he's fed up with singing it. But he has held on to his voice remarkably well considering all the years, and his version of the title track is a delightfully new take on the old song - Fred Astaire is off the throne.

It was great as it arrived on time as stated and was well worth listening to. Willie was doing what he does best. he was singing as
good as ever and making music in a very relaxed and in his usual laid back style but he made some old classic numbers sound
fresh.
More power to his plectrum

My Father is a massive Willie Nelson Fan. This is his latest album which I brought for him as a gift. He loves it and highly rates it. I myself have not listened to it but my Father would like all of you to know that if you like Country and Western this album is a must and will not disappoint.

Nice easy listening, great songs, beautifully played - what else would you expect from Willie Nelson. However, maybe a touch middle of the road for hardcore Willie fans. After all, we don't want Rod Stewart or Paul McCartney.
