Just when Bill's extended exploration of languid C&W was beginning to wear a little too comfortably , along comes this indulgent slab of beeps , whirrs ,and feedback..just what the (Rock'n'Roll ) Doctor ordered . Bill at play with his gadgets and his psychedelic hat on .Very silly and great fun .

What an excellent album. I'd been looking forward to this record for a while and it didn't disappoint. This is Frisell at his most raw and intense, yet his playing is still haunting and beautiful.

It's a solo guitar improvisation album essentially, but if you know BF's playing you know that there will be more to it than that. Naturally Derek Bailey is referenced, and lots of Frisell's trademarks effects are prominent, but aside from that the playing here is lush, intricate and inspiring.

One of the best albums of 2013 already.

Abstract, challenging, but you know who it is straight away. Compared to my last Frisell purchase of Lennon tunes, this record could not be more of a contrast. Abrasive sub-metal, delicate skeins of sound, it covers a lot of ground. All in real time with no over-dubs, what would Derek say ? A difficult listen if this was the first Frisell you listen to (unless you already know what to expect after a grounding in Henry Kaiser or Keith Rowe). Listen with open mind (on headphones). Well done William

4.0 out of 5 stars Frisell as you've never heard him before., 13 Aug 2013

For fans of Frisell's laid back Americana, this John Zorn-produced slice of solo improvisation may grate on the nerves. But for those who like a bit of risk taking there's plenty to admire. Unlike the Floratone records Silent Comedy is entirely improvised in the moment, without any overdubs. It isn't always pretty but it's impossible to remain indifferent to. Without a doubt, the most experimental recording of Frisell's career to date.
