I bought this from Amazon US after reading the detailed reviews there, it didn't ring any bells with me (I mostly buy old shows I remember as a kid in the UK) but the Rodeo scenes do seem to tickle a distant memory. Anyway that's unimportant, what I wanted to say was that this show is weird, wonderful, unexpected and doesn't easily fit into any genre. I am still only a few shows in but the scripts, the story, the acting and the action are all fantastic and so is the quality of the film on my 33inch screen. Things don't always follow the stereotypes or the plot patterns you expect, the fist fights are sometimes brutal and the (genuine) Rodeo scenes are jaw dropping - my goodness how did people really do that. But if all that surprised and delighted me so did some of the scripting - watch out for the scene when Stoney has to tell a wife she is now a widow. None of the usual 'off the peg' sentimentality we expect from watching other TV shows of any vintage. Like the show itself that scene has a gritty realism and was all the more affecting because of it. Can I claim gritty realism for a show set in a world I never knew? I can only say how impressed I am by this unexpected and hard to define series. Read the reviews on Amazon US and if like me you are intrigued then my advice is to buy this somehow, somewhere.
