With the original vinyl 45's costing an arm and a leg nowdays i found this album a god send. Having loved Rockabilly since my youth and been a collector ever since this great album contains many well known boppers and its fair share of King classics and a few ultra rare surprises too. Whether you are just discovering Rockabilly for the first time or looking to reclaim your long gone record collection this is a neat and cool starter. Packaged as ever in a smart gatefold sleeve with Disks made to resemble Singles and good liner notes and pics for this price it's a no brainer. Highly recommended.......

Two bona fide rockabillies - Charlie Feathers and Mac Curtis - plus, arguably, Bill Beachs 'Peg Pants' , do not warrant the "Essential" tag. OK, so I'm being picky, but overall you've got an excellent 50's period Rock'n'Roll set, from a label noted for its country, hillbilly, r&b, r&r and proto-soul - see James Brown - output. Much of the content here can be found on an Ace CD, "King Rockabillies", of a dozen years past. Check also the two Ace volumes of similar vintage, "King Rock & Roll". If you've got it, dust off your 1974 vintage Polydor LP, "Rockabilly Kings", a side each for Feathers and Curtis, just about definitive. Had this set been titled "Essential ROCK & ROLL", I might have been persuaded to give an extra star, but excellent sound quality (? the mastering source) and cheapo price helped a lot, as didn't minimal liner note in teeny weeny print (then again, I can read the book).
