I found the first third of the first book a little hard going, then the writing suddenly warmed up. Humour crept in. So did sarcasm, a healthy use of the F word and a great line in self depreciation.

All the elements of UF were there, refreshingly and interestingly mixed into a very entertaining format.

The writing was clear and well punctuated (how rare!) and never distracted me from the story.

I loved the way all the characters were allowed to change and develop as events affected them. I grinned with delight when Mack's sneaking around caused clothing rips and chewing gum getting stuck in her hair. I delighted in the heartless power grabbing of the vampires (no teen heart throbbing here). I liked the fact that it took 3 books before the heart-mate relationship solidified, and we got to know him first, warts and all. I appreciated how small scenes built into rounded character portraits (Aubrey and Solus (sp?), complete with compassion, humour and impatience. Oh, and I want to know more about the Fae (which is a first).

Was it perfect? No. The first book took a while to settle in, and the second felt like a novella intended to fill in time between 1 and 3. But those are tiny niggles. The overall series was excellent.

Can't wait to find our where Harper goes with the next series!

Bloodmagic picks up roughly six months after the conclusion of Bloodfire and finds Mack in a whole new environment, facing all new challenges, but many of the same faces. She's still dancing around Corrigan and trying her absolute hardest to protect her friends and family from him. It's touching. She does make some new friends, however, and I liked all of them. Mrs. Alcoon is just sweet as can be, if a little eccentric and Solus' ceaseless arrogance is amusing. As in the first book I thought Mack's ability to walk into situations in which she was enormously out manned and succeed was a little hard to swallow. I mean in the Bloodfire she took on a Demi-god and here a citadel full of mages! Maybe Solus isn't the one I should be calling arrogant.

Since the primary reason I decided to continue the series (not the only one, it is just a fun series) is to see what happens between Mack and Corrigan I was completely disappointed at the end of the book. I don't want to give anything away, but yeah, disappointed in the end. I also noted a few more editorial mishaps and consistency breaches than in the first. For example, Mack refers to a knee buckling kiss at one point that I have no memory of happening. I even went back to reread the passage in question and couldn't find it. I liked it enough to buy the third though.

I have read books 1 and 2 of this series within 2 days, they are real page turners. The characters in the books are great, and in Blood Magic, new, equally interesting characters are introduced and there are several threads started so you know the series is going to continue. Which is a relief, because I desperately want to know what happens next. These books are memorable and will be staying in my "favourite re-read" section of my kindle. More more more please Ms Harper! Highly recommend.

Second book and I'm reading these too fast as they are a fantastic read. Lots of excitement, action and suppressed passion! Magic, mystery and frustration - please get it together! (No spoilers here) roll on book 3

I really enjoyed book one in this series, so immediately bought and read book two. While still highly readable, book 2 isn't really satisfying. My main issue is that the heroine and her love interest spend almost the entire book nowhere near each other. That's a problem in a paranormal romance - I kept wanting to shout "cut to the chase!" This is also a quite short book, which is slightly annoying as well (is this really a 5 book series, or is it a 3 or 4 book series that's been spread out to make more money?). TBH, I'm not certain that I'm going to bother buying book 3, cause I feel a little like I'm just being strung along.

I have read the complete series and it is a series that I could read again and again. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for any more future books written by this author.

Without a doubt this is one the best urban fantasy book I have ever read. I absolutely loved it, it's a long time since I've read a book that I enjoyed so much, it made me laugh out loud one moment yet moved me to tears the next. I only discovered the series this week and I have to say I am now feeling a little sleep deprived, a real page turner that I couldn't put down. Can't wait to read more in the series. A real treasure, definitely a keeper to be re read.

Having read or started several that have been thinly plotted of with flat characters I wasn't expecting much from this - but what a shaock - a real solid story with great plots and sub plots and characters that felt real. I've already bought the next (10 o'clock last night, soon as i finshed this) If you like Ilona Andrews. Patricia Briggs, etc then this has the same solid feel to it - good story that bears a re read.

A really well put together, intricate story. I loved the first one, and this one didn't disappoint. I love the tension between Mack and the males in her life, it real lit draws you in. Then the action and storyline make it an addictive and Moorish series. Well written and paced, with funny and clever wit thrown in. FAB.

The second book in the Blood Destiny series didn't disappoint. The plot was picked up nicely from Book 1 and developed further, with some twists & turns, taking the story down new, interesting routes. We welcome back existing characters and meet some very engaging new ones. Couldn't put it down...can't wait for Book 3!
