5.0 out of 5 stars Marco Pinotti
A very good insight into a modern cycling culture told by an athlete who has rode through the aged doping era into the current clean sport.

2.0 out of 5 stars Dull
I was really disappointed with this book. Pinotti has a good reputation as a straight-up, honest, decent guy. And I'm sure he is. But this book does not do him justice. The narrative is very factual - there is very little emotion in the writing and so it just reads as a series of ponderings about various things in cycling. But if you know something about road cycling, and...

4.0 out of 5 stars Impressive combo of study and racing, 19 May 2013
This review is from: The Cycling Professor (Kindle Edition)
I am impressed by the way he combined studying and racing. Being I that position I can say it's hard. The way the book is written has some evidence of uni assignments as the way the book is build up is quiet similar to it. Nice to see there is more in life then bike riding, even for a pro. Enjoy reading.

I was really disappointed with this book. Pinotti has a good reputation as a straight-up, honest, decent guy. And I'm sure he is. But this book does not do him justice. The narrative is very factual - there is very little emotion in the writing and so it just reads as a series of ponderings about various things in cycling. But if you know something about road cycling, and have read books by others, then there is very little new in here.

You finish the book maybe understanding what Pinotti's (fairly uncontroversial) views are on various matters, but you don't feel you really understand him as a person, what drives him, etc. There is a small sectin on other riders but you learn very little about his relationships with people in and out of the peloton. No doubt he's a private person and doesn't want to upset anyone, but it just makes the book, well a bit dull, which is a real shame.

A good straight forward account of his pro career. Not to much technical stuff just honest account of the pro peleton.

Simply a great book by an interesting and articulate pro cyclist. Pinotti will have my vote if, after racing, he enters the governance of the sport.

5.0 out of 5 stars An insider guide to the peloton, 30 May 2013

Excellent account, translated from the original Italian of Pinotti's career as a pro cyclist. Some reviews have been critical of the writing style which is fairly simple at times, but this is also clearly a result of the translation process. They should get over it, or go and read the book in its original language.

Look beyond that and just enjoy the book for an account of life inside the peloton from a long standing member of it. Very refreshing to read a book about a regular member, not one of the superstars, although Pinotti is definitely now one of the unsung heroes.

Cyclists with an interest in the professional cycling world will enjoy reading this honest and thorough 'insider's' account. At a time when certain cycling books are being shredded, this is a breath of fresh Italian air.

5.0 out of 5 stars An enlightening view of the Peleton!, 3 May 2013

Marco Pinotti has shown a view of the peleton I had not thought about. His knowledge and friendships are obvious
and shows just why he is such a popular rider. This book is a relaxed and thoughtful story of events and shows all
the highs and lows of a riders life. I found it an enjoyable read amongst all the hype and abuse books being written
just now. Thoroughly recommend.

2.0 out of 5 stars Poorly written or poor translation, 7 Jan 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: The Cycling Professor (Kindle Edition)
Being a keen cyclist this was another in a growing number of books recently released.

The positives were this was my first purchase for the Kindle App on iPad. That experience was straight forward and hassle free although I did miss the feel of book in my hand.

The 'book' was poor. I didi wonder if this was down to translation or whether this guy had little to write about. Sadly I think the latter. It failed to inform, was brief in detail and unsurprisingly missed out a lot of the truths that exist in cycling today. Was this because there aren't any truths from Pinnotti or is he the one clean guy in this mucky era of cycling?

There's better kids books opposed to this.
