1.0 out of 5 stars disappointed
I was expecting to read more about catching criminals which I am sure there were many,
But it was mostly about his trips to the states, to give speeches, bringing CCTV to Airdrie,
Behind the scene police work. Sorry I found myself turning over pages looking for something
Less boring.

An excellent book, written by a policeman's policeman, not a bean counter. Like most 'working' officers, shackled by paper shufflers.

This is a good and interesting look at life in the police from a man who obviously loved his work and helping others. Reminds us how brave and special the police force can be.

Mr Pearson shows an eloquence he never displayed at school. Only joking Graeme! This book is well plotted and very easy to read. His memories of Partick in the 1950-60s era are very accurate including the odious J Goudy, the Harry Flashman of St. Peters Boys'. It is quite refreshing to hear of a policeman who enjoys reading Rousseau and understands and agrees with his philosophy. Though as a teenager the author, like the rest of us, showed more interest in Robbins (Harold) than Rousseau. His views are hardly controversial and are shared by most of us in his generation. I recommend this book as it gives a clear insight into the mind of a top class detective who has never forgotten his adopted roots. A great story, despite the posed photograph on the front cover.

5.0 out of 5 stars Distinction in the Police and in Public Life, 27 Jan 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a superb book, by a policeman committed to the maintenance of the rule of law but understanding of society's problems. Graeme Pearson has had an immensely distinguished career as a police officer. We are fortunate indeed that he is now a Member of the Scottish Parliament and Shadow Justice Secretary. We need people of his integrity, experience and calibre in politics.
