The version in the movie surpasses the stage musical in one way, the same way the Dream a Dream in the movie surpasses the stage. It may not be as pretty but it works so much better in context. At the end of the Day is a song about poverty, about the war between the poor to survive. In the film we get to see more of the poor, their destitution and unlike the stage version which uses a dozen women in employment, this version lets the viewer (and consequently the listener) hear and see more of the struggle for the poor every day. The vocal work is perfect here, the tone is menacing and excellent thoroughly. Contains Hathaway's first song and she does extremely well here.
