Not the same as the original
on 22 October 2013
This is a delightful little book celebrating the uniqueness of every child, written in poetry form and is perfectly acceptable if this is all you are looking for. HOWEVER although there is little outside difference (apart from a different colour and slight difference in the style of writing on the front cover), be aware that it is COMPLETELY different to the original, paperback version. Although the illustrations on each page are identical the words have been changed entirely. The original was not written in verse but had a lovely rhythm and was full of prompting questions, which are great to aid discussions with your child about how special they are. More significantly the original book emphasised how we are all made by God and makes a wonderful Christening or dedication present. However, having seen the board book (better for younger babies) I ordered that, only to discover that it has been completely secularised - ie there is no mention of God at all. Perhaps this is to make it more acceptable to a wider readership, but for a Christening gift (as was intended) it is absolutely useless, and I think it loses something. (Amazon won't even let me insert a product link to the original version, as the two books are linked and it only links to the newer version, although at the time of writing the old one is still sold on Amazon by various marketplace sellers). For the avoidance of doubt the original version is paperback (as opposed to board book), has blue writing on the front (rather than pink as on the newer version), the title is written in an older-fashioned typeface (rather than modern handwritten-type font) and has ISBN 0745942695 (not ISBN 0745963005/0745963006).
