5.0 out of 5 stars finalmente
I've waited years to get all of these performances on CD. It's interesting to note that modern performance practices on period instruments are beginning to emulate Klemperer's 'x-ray' approach to these scores: you heard it here first.

3.0 out of 5 stars Very mixed bag
Magic flute brilliant. Nozze di Figaro pretty awful. The finale at end of Act II sounds dreary a unique achievement! Don Giovanni spoilt by the awful Donna Anna. Cosi fan tutte the best performance I have heard of what is not a favourite opera

5.0 out of 5 stars Strongly Dramatic Performances of Mozart Operas., 27 May 2013

This review is from: Mozart: Le Nozze Di Figaro/Don Giovanni/... (Audio CD)
Klemperer's 1966 recording of Don Giovanni with Nicolai Ghiaurov was first issued on CD in 1991, reissued in 2012.
The sound was not remastered for the reissue, but is very good indeed.
It is now included in this 11 CD box of Mozart operas, published in 2013.

The performance is heavy and dramatic.
Not the currently accepted Mozart style.
I'd rather hear this than an "elegant" performance.

The 2012 version included 59 minutes of rehearsal excerpts, mostly devoted to Mirella Freni as Zerlina: Mozart: Don Giovanni
The opera, but NOT the rehearsal CD, is included in the box under review. A shame.

I had a crush on Mirella Freni, and it sounds like Otto Klemperer did too.
It actually sounds like the 81 year-old conductor is flirting with the 31 year-old singer.
This is not what I expected a Klemperer rehearsal to sound like.

Klemperer's Magic Flute was justifiably included in EMI's "Great Recordings of the Century" - Mozart: Die Zauberflöte - or - Magic Flute - or - Mozart: Die Zauberflote (Home of Opera)

The Cosi fan tutte and Marriage of Figaro are very controversial: Mozart: Così fan tutte - or - Mozart;Cosi Fan Tutte - and - Mozart: Le nozze di Figaro
Recorded late in Klemperer's life, they are also heavy and dramatic (detractors would say slow and ponderous).
I find them fascinating, but they don't sound like comic operas.

I recommend Klemperer's Mozart Opera box, but I also recommend that you supplement it with the (inexpensive) 2012 reissue of Don Giovanni: Mozart: Don Giovanni
Just for the sake of the rehearsal CD.

A Confession: I didn't actually buy this box.
I own the 1991 EMI Cosi and Marriage of Figaro, the 2000 EMI GROC Magic Flute, and the 2012 Don Giovanni.

Three of these operas can be purchased separately at low cost,
but The Marriage of Figaro has been out of print for a long time, and the 1991 CDs are quite expensive on the used CD market.
This 11 CD box is the cheapest way to acquire it.

My primary purpose in writing this review is to call your attention to the wonderful rehearsal CD included with the 2012 Don Giovanni:
Mozart: Don Giovanni
