In the snowy covered Colorado mountains five friends and a dog (sounds a bit Enid Blyton) arrive at the cabin where two of the friends Ryan and Jane spent many happy holidays in their childhood. This is to be a last get together before Ryan goes on to Switzerland to start a new career. Shortly after their arrival they become stranded by a blizzard, but not only are they cut off but something or several somethings are lurking in the woods. The friends soon find themselves in a terrifying situation when they realize that they are about to become prey. This chiller is typical of many other horror tales and movies, there is nothing original here, but it is all good fun. A readable novel that whiles away a few hours.

3.0 out of 5 stars "house surrounded by nasties" sort of horror story, 27 July 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: The Shuddering (Kindle Edition)
Usual sort of tale of a load of young people getting stranded, this time in a snowy chalet - well, it's a bit more than a chalet because the father of two of them is rolling in money - not that it does a lot to save them from the horrors that they are to face in the days to come. As is usual in this type of book (or film) one by one they are getting picked off by the nasties. When venturing out into the wilderness, even if they have been there on previous occasions, it would have been wise to be more prepared for any event, such as intruders, wolves, whatever. This lot seemed to be lacking in either weapons or sense.

Anyhow, I don't suppose it was such a bad read. I didn't give it up as a bad job. I kept going right to the end, which to be fair is what they, in a way, attempted to do!,

4.0 out of 5 stars Not for those of nervous disposition, 10 Jan 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: The Shuddering (Kindle Edition)
As the synopsis says, five friends arrive at an isolated cabin in the snowy mountains to do some snowboarding. Relationships are not uncomplicated and there is tension and unfinished business between some members of the party, which leads to the death of one of them by the awful creatures inhabiting the woods. Like vampires they don't like sunlight. They are intelligent and extremely scary. The creatures are so well described, I could picture them in my mind perfectly. One by one, the friends fall prey to these monsters and one wonders who, if anyone, will survive. Just when you think the tale has come to an end, you realise that in fact the ending isn't really an ending, but a beginning. Perhaps that would have been too simple? Compulsive reading.

Really good book, full of suspense. I don't enjoy gory stuff and really only read it as it is close to Halloween but I really enjoyed it. Keep checking the doors and jumping at shadows though!

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor Ending, 19 July 2013

Very poor ending, quite rushed, I think the author should have thought the ending through at the beginning and then put it together, but it seems he got fed up and thought 'that'll do'.
Gripping at times but some serious flaws which let it down, otherwise it would have been a four stars from me.
