Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons, The Anthology, DAY2CD193
2 CDs & 50 tracks
Liner notes by One Day Music regular Brian Parks.
Gate fold packaging with photographs and attractive design. Frankie Valli has been active since 1951 and is still performing today. He has been involved with many line up's. Included are his 2 songs as Frankie Tyler CD 1. Billy Dixon CD 2 etc.
Includes the 1962 number one chart toppers "Sherry" & "Big Girls Don't Cry" (Vee Jay label).
He cut his first record with "My Mother's Eyes" in 1953 and was credited as Frankie Valley. His first two singles are included (recorded for Corona & Mercury labels). His group called The Four Lovers was active from 1956 to 1959 (RCA & Epic labels) and is represented he on CD2 tracks 8 to 25. They had a minor hit with the song "You're the Apple of My Eye" (track 20). The group became The Four Seasons in 1960. The Broadway musical Jersey Boys is based on his life and times of The Four Seasons.
CD 1 covers 1953 to 1962 & CD 2 covers 1956 to 1961. Excellent value and very worth adding to your musical archive.

The Four Seasons had many guises before 1962 and the success of Sherry, and here most of the known material from Frankie Valli's first 1953 single on the Corona label thought to the Sherry album is covered. There are some superb tracks, especially from the period of 1957 onwards. By this time Frankie's voice had matured and the falsetto wasn't such a harsh sound as it had been. Beware that the early stuff is racous and loud, but it's musically tight and full of energy and innovation. The "sound" of Frankie Valli in the making. 50 tracks reproduced to a good level of quality, all for this price? An amazing bargain.

In my mind, one of the gratest singers in history and still going strong. This CD is one of the best that I have ever heard.
