5.0 out of 5 stars Skerryvore New Album 2012
Latest album from Skerryvore, A great band from Scotland. World Of Chances is a fantastic album and a great follow up to the previous Skerryvore self titled release. All 11 tracks are very good with stand out track's including - Put your hands up, Magic Numbers, At The End Of The Day, The Ones You Love and Hey Hey Hey. These guys are a truly tight band and if you have'nt...

3.0 out of 5 stars Skerryvore - World Of Chances
I was really looking forward to this, Skerryvore's fourth album. Unfortunately their major selling-point of upfront Highland bagpipes that played such a major part of the overall sound on their previous recording has been usurped by the more rustic charms of Daniel Gillespie's accordion and Craig Espie's fiddle. OK, so the fiddle and accordion were always part of the...

Listening to the albums is great, but when the band perform the songs live the energy they put into the songs is truly amazing. Great band, great bunch a guys, great real songs and one of the best live bands doing the rounds just now. I'm sure this band will go a long way, And I must say I hope they do.

5.0 out of 5 stars Happy days, 2 Jun 2014

I heard this playing in the Stornoway tourist office on a wet afternoon in May and it caught my ear. Having heard a bit of Skerryvore's other stuff I picked it up to play in the car and the day was turned on its head. The guy in the tourist office found us a dry camping pod Instead of the soggy wet tent rolled up in the boot and then myself and my 10 year old son set off in the car and pressed play. Over the next 44 minutes magic happened as we listened to some of the most uplifting, happy, foot tapping, sing along music i've heard for a while. Its amazing how quickly you feel you know this stuff, not because it's cliched or sounds like someone else; Skerryvore do have a distinctive sound but its a blend of so many familiar influences uniquely combined. By the end of the CD the rain had stopped, the sun had come out and we'd reached our spectacular destination!
'World of chances' may be a bit less folky and trad that previous releases but the quality of the songwriting, the playing and the production are just class. This will become a classic album. Buy it and you'll be singing along to 'Hey Hey Hey', 'Magic number' and 'Whats new today? ' before each song has finished.

This is a must for anyone into Celtic tinged music or Scottish modern music, played with a skill and level that defies their young ages and actual experience as a band this is a wonderful addition to anyone's cd collection..

Music with appeal to Scottish folk and rock fans. Skerrymore are exuberant in concert, this CD is more mellow and good for chilling to at home.

I went to see this band for the first time when they played there "Put Your Hands Up" tour in Pitlochry earlier this year (2013) and they were outstanding. I decided to buy this album to see how it compared to them live and I was not disappointed. I've played it in my car every day since. Time to buy another album from this band...

3.0 out of 5 stars Skerryvore - World Of Chances, 4 Sep 2012
This review is from: World Of Chances (Audio CD)
I was really looking forward to this, Skerryvore's fourth album. Unfortunately their major selling-point of upfront Highland bagpipes that played such a major part of the overall sound on their previous recording has been usurped by the more rustic charms of Daniel Gillespie's accordion and Craig Espie's fiddle. OK, so the fiddle and accordion were always part of the make-up but I'm not sure about them playing such a pivotal role. Cast your mind back to a time when The Bluebells and Proclaimers were king of the swingers, Skerryvore would have fit as snugly as a rawlplug round a screw right alongside them. With Barry Caulfield (bass), Fraser West (drums) and Alec Dalglish on vocals, guitars and mandolin and guest producer Alan Scobie on keyboards and percussion in general the sound is pleasant but for me at least rarely reaches the peaks of the band's previous outing. If, however you're looking for a `festival' band then songs such as the opening track "Put Your Hands Up", the Big Country sounding "Magic Numbers" or the goodtime Zydeco styled "The Last Time" could have you swaying hypnotically along with your mates in a sweaty marquee. I'm sorry I couldn't have given this recording a more positive review but then again, perhaps next time? [...]

Not as instantly likeable as their previous album, but it's growing on me. Incidentally, if you have the chance to see these guys live, don't miss it!
