The iconic Italian-American opera singer, Anna Moffo (1932-2006), was regarded as one of the leading lyric-coloratura sopranos of her generation. Her warm and radiant voice is showcased to great effect on this 1962 recording of operetta/musical selections ranging from THE MERRY WIDOW (VILIA) and DIE FLEDERMAUS (OH FOR THE LIFE OF AN ACTRESS) through THE DESERT SONG (THE SABRE SONG), SHOW BOAT (BILL), ROSE MARIE (INDIAN LOVE CALL), PORGY AND BESS (SUMMERTIME) and others with assistance from Richard Fredericks, Stanley Glover and others when required. Accompanied by The Beecham Promenade Orchestra and Chorus, conducted by Lehman Engel with arrangements contributed by Henri Rene.
This excellent recording will prove to be a real treat for those who recall the beautiful singer who unfortunately endured many set-backs during her tremulous career but neverthless left a great musical legacy.
