A very well researched history book, with fantastic details of the medieval archer, his skills and his battles. Useful to find facts at your fingertips, but more importantly is the way this book was written..... it's written with exciting descriptions of bloody battles from childhood training to the modern bad ass of mad Jack Churchill, probably the last Englishman to be on French soil killing gun wielding Germans in 1940 - with an English Longbow and a Scottish Broadsword...oh and a motorbike, but that's another story!

Great read. I could hardly put it down. It read in parts like a Bernard Cornwall novel. Brought to life the tough, strong yoemen who wielded the long bow with such devastating effect.

Very good read with information about how the tactics of using the archer as a modern at that time way of attacking the opponent whilst staying out of range of their weapons.
Interesting is Donald's comment that the bow and arrow was more deadly than the musket at 100 yds and a faster rate of fire even at the Napoleonic wars.
