I was really looking forward to Seasons and I couldn't wait to get all the great weather changes for my Sims. The new weather is fantastic and really adds a new exciting element to gameplay. However, although the weather is brilliantly done and the festivals and new activities are really fun and interesting, the expansion is just a little disappointing, as it seems that EA really rushed the release date without having perfected the game.

Each season normally lasts for seven days, but players have the option to change the duration of each season. Each season has different weather effects like sunshine, rain, lightning, fog, hail, and snow. Also there is a holiday held on the last Friday of the season, which is a special day and Sims don't go to work or school. There is a new festival community lot that takes the place of the town's main park and offers different activities for each season.

Summer is the first season of the Sim year. The weather is mostly sunny and warm with an occasional rain, and Sims have to use parasols and umbrellas to protect themselves from the sun and the rain. Opening their colourful parasols and umbrellas is really adorable, but keep in mind that they will not do that automatically, and you actually have to buy them and put them in their inventory. Sims can now swim in the sea which is great, but they can't swim in lakes, which seems odd and if your town doesn't have a sea, it can be a problem. The summer activities include water balloon fights, hot dog eating contests, fireworks and getting a tan. The summer holiday is Leisure Day and it can be celebrated with a Pool Party.

Fall is mostly rainy and foggy with leaves falling from the trees and Sims can rake the leaves and create piles to play in or burn. The fall activities include carving pumpkins, bobbing for apples, entering the spooky shack and pie eating contests. The Fall holiday is the Halloween inspired, Spooky Day and it can be celebrated with a Feast Party, where guests bring the food.

Winter is very, very beautiful, as it is mostly snowy and all the lots are covered in snow. Sims can make snow angels, build snowmen, and put outdoor fairy lights on their houses, which creates a very festive atmosphere. Also, children have snowy days when it snows and they don't have to go to school. The winter activities include snowball fights, ice skating, snowboarding, kissing under the mistletoe, and building igloos. The winter holiday is the Christmas inspired Snowflake Day and it can be celebrated with a Gift Giving Party, where a pile of presents appears in the middle of the room and each person gets one.

Spring is mostly rainy and there are lovely flowers everywhere, which Sims can pick and use to decorate their homes. The spring activities include attending kissing booths, dancing contest, and the egg hunt. The spring holiday is the Valentine's Day inspired Love Day, but there doesn't seem to be a special party to celebrate it, which is quite an omission.

There is no new neighborhood with this expansion, which is really disappointing, as I was hoping there would be one. There are no new careers and there are only two new traits; "loves heat" and "loves cold". There are a few new objects, including a new hot tub, some pool equipment and a few furniture, but sadly almost no holiday items, as one might expect. I really don't understand why there are no seasonal decorations, especially considering that there is an important holiday for each season. Luckily, I had already downloaded the Halloween and Christmas themed decorations from the Sim's store, so at least my poor Sims had a Christmas tree. There are also some new hairstyles, that are not that great and a couple new outfits, mostly uninspired outwear.

There are of course those frustrating little things that could have been easily avoided, if the creators had given some more thought into the game. First of all, pets don't really adapt to the changes in weather, so we get Sim cats happily playing and hunting in the rain, which is definitely not very realistic. Also, Sims can now plant and grow pumpkins and they can even have pumpkin pie as their favorite food, which makes no sense, as there is no option to make a pumpkin pie, not even for cooking level ten Sims. Last but not least, is the lack of greenhouses; plants naturally fall into a dormant state for half the year, which means that professional gardeners have no way to earn their living.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best expansion for The Sims 3, 24 Nov 2012
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: The Sims 3: Seasons Expansion Pack (PC DVD) (DVD-ROM)
First of all, ignore the review about it not being Mac compatible. This game IS compatible with Mac, however Amazon have only put PC DVD in the title.

The Sims 3 has been a very bumpy ride. As a fan of the franchise since The Sims 1, I've had a lot to be annoyed about with previous expansions not living up to ones of The Sims 2 and Sims 1. This expansion is a pure delight to play, and makes the game feel fresh and introduces something which will enhance your gameplay experience in any world that you play in.

The Sims 3 Seasons introduces Autumn, Winter, Spring, and Summer each with their own festivals, weather, and holidays! Aliens are back too - you can get pregnant via. abduction or send them to invade the town!

This expansion will get you hooked on The Sims 3 once again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting if you can fill in enough time, 8 April 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: The Sims 3: Seasons Expansion Pack (PC DVD) (DVD-ROM)
Sims themselves are incredibly pressed for time considering it takes half an hour to get up stairs, 1 hour to take a bath, another hour to climb into bed, etc etc. Having enough time to enjoy the festivities as well as making sure your sims get to and from work in time before they starve can be quite taxing unless you have one of the 2 LTW items to have your sims not worry about finding the nearest toilet, shower, or having not enough time to do their homework or home projects. You do however get to enjoy using seasonal furnishings from the Sims 3 store and throw lots of parties.

Watch out for massive lag spikes on rainy and snowy days if your processors aren't up to date, and even if your machine is one of the top notch versions there's still chances of lag because after all it's written by EA.

Not as good as I thought but I still love it!! Least it's not the same weather anymore and I can have snow, heavy rain. Plus, I think it's pretty cool how they can jump in puddles...so clever too

This is a fun expansion to the popular Sims game. As the name suggests, it introduces seasons and weather. Players can control the length of seasons and disable certain types of weather in the options menu, much as you can control Sim lifespans. Each season has its own celebration day and there are new options for parties. The central park is replaced by the 'festival grounds' where Sims can engage in different seasonal activities, and can win 'festival tickets' that can be exchanged for special items. The game also introduces aliens, who randomly come to visit. You can interact with them as with normal Sims, and can marry them/move them in/have babies with them. They have a new range of interactions and come with their own space car that can be used to invade lots, abduct other Sims or visit space. For players who enjoy supernatural elements of the game this will probably be a welcome addition.

I enjoyed a lot of aspects of Seasons, there's plenty here to reinvigorate the game for players who are a getting a bit bored. There are also a lot of new achievements, many of which are relatively easy to achieve, which will please those who enjoy working towards these. However there are some negative aspects of the new features that players might want to consider before installing. Firstly the number of public holidays can greatly extend the length of time it takes for Sims to climb the career ladder. This might be particularly frustrating for players trying to achieve some of the tougher achievements or lifetime wishes that require Sims to reach the top of their career. This might also be a seen as a benefit for those who would rather their Sim was at home to work on skills, throw parties etc. Secondly, plants become 'dormant' for a large part of the year, meaning gardeners can't harvest plants and therefore can't earn a living or develop their gardens. Ponds freeze over in winter which may be an issue of Sims keen on fishing. Thirdly it is possible for Sims to die from cold or heat exposure, or to be struck by lightning, which makes outdoor activities a rather risky proposition and have the potential to spoil things for players who enjoy their Sims doing any kind of outdoor activity.

So overall this is a fun addition to the Sims collection but it's worth bearing in mind the points above.

This expansion is really great, it changes the gameplay and affects the game in way that give new life to each neighbourhood. Having the seasons change through the year really gives you a sense of time that was missing in the sims before now. Totally recommend it.

It feels these days the developers at EA are getting stingier and stingier with their releases. I had looked forward to this release for years, and when it finally came, I couldn't have been happier, until I realised that while the weather function is nice, it doesn't add a whole lot to the gameplay experience as it is.

While the seasons are nice, they run their novelty out pretty fast after the first few seasons, and the activities at the seasonal events get old pretty fast. The seasons do add a push to motives and help to influence things like romances for example, and they do add little touches like your Sim getting soaked to the bone, and possibly getting a cold.

What didn't the game add? Well, there was supposedly a ton of new objects added, but very little of it for your sims home. There are little to no outfits (some ridiculous ones were added, for which reason escapes me completely). No new swimsuits, not much in the outerwear section (there is no section dedicated to spring clothes, summer clothes, autumn clothes and winterclothes...your outerwear is simply what coat you will put on when it rains/is cold).

Other additions...I think there is one or two new hair styles. If you're the kind of person who buys the expansion to get their hands on the content because the Sims official site overcharges on objects for the game, then I'd suggest don't even bother with this expansion. The amount of objects you can personally enjoy are few and far between, and there is very little choice in architectual objects included in this one (I think two windows, two doors, and a rail is pretty much it).

By far, I think this is the worst of the expansions to date, it was hyped up well, but added very little in the end and the novelty wore down. Still for those who like to use the game to make videos and tell stories, this will probably be right up their alley. I personally felt like I'd paid for very little substance.

i was really, really looking forwards to this expansion and it was totally worth the wait. it's one of the most fun expansions i have. yes, it might not be bring so much into the game as in story line etc, but the existence of the seasons and weather itself brings the sims world truly alive. if it's sunburns, snowstorms or the yearly flu shot, it just makes this virtual reality so much more fun to be in. and this is what we all want from the sims, right? a world within a world, but this time we are the almighty ones. must have for sims fans!
