1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
I was looking forward to reading this book but I gave up after reading about 25%
It seemed to focus on details of the various shots played on various courses. I was hoping to hear more about the personality of Seve.
When you have played golf and you return to the clubhouse some golfers will tell you a stroke by stroke analysis of their round. If you enjoy...

5.0 out of 5 stars Absorbing insight into the enigma who changed European golf, 29 Nov. 2012
As we saw so poignantly at the Ryder Cup, the spirit of Seve Ballesteros remains an invigorating force in European golf - an enduring symbol of passion, determination and defiance.
Robert Green's book succeeds admirably as both a celebration and a rigorous examination of the elusive Spanish phenomenon who helped transform golf on so many levels over his tumultuous and controversial career.
As a British golf magazine editor since the 1980s, the author enjoyed regular access to Seve for exclusive articles and instruction shoots and at functions beyond the standard tournament press conferences. The resulting anecdotes that spice this compelling account provide a fly-on-the-wall insight often lacking in so many cut-and-paste biogs.
Similarly essential are the first-hand contributions from an A-list cast of characters including Nick Faldo, José Maria Olazabal and David Leadbetter, as well as assorted big-shot tour executives and family members.
While Green is clearly a huge fan, it doesn't prevent him - as the title confirms - from chasing the demons that formed the flip-side to his subject's on-course genius, charm and tenacity.
Beyond the thorough, fluent and balanced biog of a sporting legend, it's an absorbing tale of the radical rebranding of golf since the 1970s, and the pivotal influence of the central character who remained so passionate and defiant til his own untimely end.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read, 3 Dec. 2012
It is an all too common trend in sporting biographies to tell a tale of a sportsperson who may have achieved a lot but who does not have a particularly captivating story, or to tell the tale of someone who is currently in the sporting limelight but only partway through their career. This biography, however, is about a great golfer who had a glittering career but also had a fascinating life story. It is clearly written by someone who knew Seve well and this allows the author to paint a compelling picture of him. A must have for all golf fans but I also recommend it to any readers who enjoy sports books.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you loved Seve then read this, 16 April 2013

Having read every book on The King of European golf this was a book that I somehow missed. It brought back fond memories of my hero a great golfer and champion who inspired so many. Even though like other people who reviewed this book and found much of the tedious shot detail at times boring it recollected shots which I'd seen both at tournaments and on tv which I had long since forgotten.
Long may Seve's life be celebrated. A must read if you are a fan of one of the all time masters.
Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating read, 26 Mar. 2013
This review is from: Seve: Golf's Flawed Genius (The Updated Definitive Biography) (Kindle Edition)
The legend that was Seve is played out warts and all in this detailed and frank biography. An excellent coverage of his early years, his jump into stardom and the lengths he went to in continuing his ultimate passion. The cruel twists of fate of a continual back injury mixed with his unswerving belief in his own supremacy bring alive the ups and downs of this legend. A great book about a true golf phenomenon.

A flawed genius at times, true champion. Ryder cup success is only down to Seve, Ian Poulter has taken over his mantle.

5.0 out of 5 stars Seve: Golf's Flawed Genius, 27 Nov. 2012
This review is from: Seve: Golf's Flawed Genius (The Updated Definitive Biography) (Kindle Edition)
Seve was a hero for me and golfers all around the world when he was alive and still remains so despite dying at a young age from a brain tumor. The 2012 Ryder Cup proved what a powerful influence Seve has had on golfers and also fans of golf, and this wonderful book tells the story of his life and those amazing achievements plus his highs and lows on and off the golf course. But beyond doubt, it proves what a golfing genius Seve was - simple! An inspirational read especially for all of us who at least once in a round attempt a daring 'Seve escape' shot!!!

Great insight into a sporting hero / legend. An accurate title in Flawed Genius, the book goes into detail of all aspects of the man from what would appear to be a unique perspective.

A fascinating insight into probably one of the most complex characters in the game of golf. Much of it came as a surprise to me and despite the writing style not being one to win any awards, it is highly recommended reading for any golf fans.
