Olly the wine editor of the Mail on Sunday is just the man I need to take me by the elbow and steer me through the supermarket wine aisles . His book does that supremely useful thing of giving you loads of general info about grapes, vineyards, keeping wine, what is good value (and by implication what isn't) rather than just making recommendations which if you live in the sticks like me you can't get your hands on anyway. Though he does that too, online. His chirpy style communicates a weighty body of information and wisdom. Indispensable.

'I've never eaten a meteorite, but... I'd quite fancy giving one lick if it tumbled into my back yard. You just never know where the next taste sensation might come from.' That's Olly, ever on the lookout for new things to lick and sip. He knows an awful lot about wine but he never stops being excited by it, often finding thrills in the most unexpected places. The book is packed with useful information, but he wears it lightly: the stuff is simply tumbling out of his pockets. He makes wine fun. I'd say he'd be great to glug with.

I'm really enjoying this book. Dozens of short articles covering all kinds of fascinating and uptodate info about wine I didn't know. Will make me go out and explore whole new areas of the wine world. Also bought as a gift for my dad - perfect pressie. Recommended!

On the whole a worthwhile read and certainly an education on wine but best to dip in and out of rather than as a continuous reading venture. It is highly repetitive but this would suit the reader who uses it more as a source of ideas.

This is not really a gift for a beginner in wine appreciation. It is more of a read about wine than a reference book, which is what I had been expecting. However it was warmly received by my brother who already knows a lot about wine.
