Katherine Jenkins recorded some Christmas songs for Decca, who have released a compilation featuring them together with a selection of sacred songs and called it My Christmas. However, this is the first bona-fide Christmas album by Katherine Jenkins.

The set opens with O come o come Emmanuel, a very slow song that is followed by the very upbeat Ding dong merrily on high. Two more contrasting Christmas songs would be hard to find, but Katherine is in top form on both songs and maintains the standard throughout the album.

Katherine sings the words (only partly in English) to In dulce jubilo, although the best-known version of this song is probably Mike Oldfield's instrumental version.

If you are looking for songs that aren`t heard too often, listen to Sleep quietly my Jesus (written by Ruth Heller, whose name I don't recognize), I wish you Christmas (written by John Rutter, whose name I certainly recognize) and Come what may (here performed as a duet with Placido Domingo, with two unfamiliar co-writers). Wexford carol and Angels from the realms of glory are traditional carols that don't turn up too often on mainstream Christmas albums.

This album provides an excellent mix of styles and sounds, while also mixing very familiar songs with some less obvious songs.

Would recommend this album if you appreciate a lady with a wonderful voice. A mixture of traditional and modern seasonal music accompanied by exquisite vocals. Will never age and can be listened to year after year. Buy it and you won't be disappointed.

Well it's OK but as with pretty well all of Katherines CD's the content is good, but the recording is poor.
It's such a shame as she has a wonderful voice.

Originally never liked Katherine Jenkins classic style as I used to hate snobbish opera music, as I'm a huge Celine Dion and Whitney Houston pop balled music fan. After finishing her 6 Album contract with Universal Classics, she was lured into signing with Warner who dangled David Foster the record producer of Streisand, Celine Dion and Whitney's most successful Albums. The Album 'Believe' was produced and is Katherine's biggest international hit, the range of rock ballads, pop to reggae supplementing a few classical musical and film scores pushed Katherine's range, highlighting her new style getting out of the operatic rut or arias, and just a pure beautiful female voice.

'This is Christmas' is her first Christmas CD, surprisingly refreshing and pulls away again from usual hum drum Christmas melodies and Katherine's usual outings of an operatic version, but goes back to her origins as Chorister. The diversity of songs catches you off guard 'Deck the halls' is a Welsh Christmas carol and dates back thousands of years to the time of Druids and then the CD switches to the 1953 'Santa Baby' sung with clarity in a husky alluring voice. Overall she sings the songs/carols in the original key, some of the carols like 1305 Germanic 'Il Dulchi Jubilo' which has the 1537-1857 updated words. I'm now a converted fan this year and glad to say that Katherine's diversity, exciting vocal range has got me hooked, realizing how limited regular female pop singers are compared to Katherine who simply blows them away.

KJ has produced a Christmas album that is not only very easy and pleasant to listen to but also contains tracks that will appeal to everyone. Unlike some 'classical' artists who feel the need to hit the 'esoteric' button at least once during their Christmas albums, Katherine has avoided the temptation to do this.

This album plays to her strengths delivering individual interpretations for each song from the sexy way she sings 'Santa baby' to the more formal interpretations of the traditional songs. While she is not a true 'opera' mezzo like the amazing Elina Garanca she has got a very listenable voice, stunning good looks and now she knows where she fits musically I think she will continue to deliver excellent albums like this one.

As for the 'free' Christmas card, I'm sure it will appeal to some but to me its just a waste of a few trees. I would rather have had an additional track.

Katherine has distilled the essence of Christmas music into a most beautiful album. All moods are represented here.Joyful,as in her wonderful rendition of "Hark The Herald" (complete with amazing descant on the final verse) and in "Angels From Their Realms".Reverential-her sweet tones in "Away In A Manger" and "O Come,O Come Emmanuel" spring to mind.Warm and happy-just listen to her in "Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire" or "Deck The Halls".Then there is the lovely, touching "Sleep Quietly My Jesus" which Katherine may be the first person to record but which she remembers with affection from her choirgirl days. And who could fail to be delighted by her playful (and slightly raunchy!) "Santa Baby"? It is an accolade to her that Placido Domingo duets with her on the album's only non-Xmas song "Come What May".And what a duo they make! Music to set the heart soaring.
Katherine is ably supported by some enchanting orchestral and choral accompaniments.Although,I have only named some,I can honestly say that all the tracks are imbued with Christmas spirit and are a delight to the ear.
Congratulations Katherine! Christmas will be lacking something for those who don't find this album in their stocking! ;-)

Yet another great album from a very talented lady. Don't be fooled in thinking it's going to be very operatic and in a foreign language, it's not. The tracks are great to listen to and fabulous versions for the festive season.
If you're already a fan of Katherine Jenkins you'll love this album.
