5.0 out of 5 stars Essential reading at a bargain price
This is an important booklet by Freud which introduces the controversial Death Drive (Todestrieb) in human beings. This was perhaps Freud's attempt to account for the impulses in Man that lead to the carnage of the First World War, and it could be argued that his hypothesis was confirmed by the occurrence of the next war which killed five times as many people. The...

3.0 out of 5 stars Serves its purpose, but disappointing quality leads to hard reading.
For its price and convenience, this book isn't *too* bad. I only wanted this section out of a larger book as a study guide, and having my own copy for a lower price than the larger version is convenient. However, there are a *lot* of mistakes that make this already rather difficult read even harder. Obscure punctation marks, random numbers popping up in the text and...

The formatting of this book is excellent.

For those new to Freud I would like to point out that Freud's writings are not easy to understand, and it would perhaps be advisable to read a basic introduction to Freud before coming to this book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Serves its purpose, but disappointing quality leads to hard reading., 6 Aug 2014
For its price and convenience, this book isn't *too* bad. I only wanted this section out of a larger book as a study guide, and having my own copy for a lower price than the larger version is convenient. However, there are a *lot* of mistakes that make this already rather difficult read even harder. Obscure punctation marks, random numbers popping up in the text and footnotes dropped in the middle of sentences make this a more difficult book to use, especially for someone not already well versed in psychology/psychoanalysis/Freud.

3.0 out of 5 stars Original Freudian Theory, 6 Jan 2014

This review is from: Beyond the Pleasure Principle (Kindle Edition)
It was difficult to mark this book, as it was perfect for what I needed it for (original freudian theory) but difficult to understand in parts, partly I think due to translation and partly due to Freuds writing style. Stick with it though if you need the information, you'll get there in the end!
