The stories from issues #9-12 of IDW's Star Trek comic book are collected as Star Trek Volume 3 (Star Trek (IDW)). they are both 2-issue stories retelling the original TV episodes `The Return of the Archons' and `The Trouble with Tribbles'. I can't remember enough about the Archon story to tell how much of the original plot has been used, but the Tribble story is a brand-new one, with just a hint or two from the original - as the Enterprise discovers a Klingon ship planting bombs on the Tribble homeworld... These are very-well told stories, with good art and scripting. There is also groundwork laid for the upcoming Star Trek Into Darkness [DVD], as the Starfleet Intelligence branch takes charge of the Archon supercomputer, and the Tribbles at the end of their respective stories... There is also reference to the first `new' film, with the fate of Admiral Archer's beagle tied in to the Tribble event. These characters really do feel like the crew from the film, and the stories feel as if they are set in the same universe and continuity.

The whole star trek thing is building back up, and this book is part of the excellent build up to the 2013 movie. Just can't get enough at the moment!
