This amazing dive for Koontz into the world of occult magic has provided us as the readers another wonderful example of Dean Koontz's writing skill and nack for horror at its best!!
The plot twists and turns as you would expect. The characters developing in the usual style so that by the end of the book you can almost visualise each person. The introduction of voodoo and black magic is excellent and serves the plot very well. Providing a new style of horror to be introduced into the genre, technically perfect the mysticism of the magic however is what serves the plot to the fullest.
I have read this book many times and never fail to be spooked by the depictions of some of the characters and their actions. A true must have novel for the genre and one that everyone should enjoy!! Congratulations Mr Koontz on yet another fine novel!!

'Darkness Comes', or 'Darkfall' as it is published in America, is a gripping read, following police Lt. Jack Dawson and his partner Rebecca Chandler as they hunt down Baba Lavelle, a dangerous madman with voodoo powers granted to him by the dark gods. The hunt intensifies when Lavelle tries to force Jack off the case by promising to kill his children unless he quits in his pursuit of Lavelle.

Koontz is an expert writer, creating a fast-paced, exciting book that makes you really empathise with the characters, as well as believing what is happening to them. A brilliant book that had me checking over my shoulder for days after finishing it!

The book arrived well within the time stated by the seller, it was also in the condition described. Enjoyed the story line, different than a lot of his other books, telling of a struggle between good and evil, but with a nice twist in the plot. If you like slightly scary books, give this one a try, you won't be disappointed.

I first read this book well over 20 years ago and enjoyed the voodoo presence and the dilemma faced by the police who were faced with solving an impossible case. Over the years I would look for Darkness Comes in bookshops and libraries and began to imagine that I had never read it, and that this tale had not indeed been written at all by Dean R Koontz.
After my husband presented me with a Kindle for my birthday I found this book within a couple of minutes and I am very glad to have it back! A pleasure to revisit the story and characters and it enhanced my joy of reading for any reason except as a study aid.

I enjoyed the philosophical aspects of the story regarding the concepts of heaven and hell and how we choose to live our lives, although the gooey bits were less so, I realised the necessity due to the subject matter.

A good read with great characters.

I am a fan of Dean Koontz. I have read many of his books and most of them I have found to be a thoroughly enjoyable read - always packed with suspense, mystery, often horror and sometimes pathos.

This one was only just okay. The element of voodoo made it feel like I was reading a grown up’s version of a children’s book. It was all unreal and a little bit silly. And not very credible. And the characters were not developed up the the usual Dean Koontz standard.

I did keep reading to the end, although sometimes it felt like a chore.

However, I have great faith in Mr Koontz and I shall certainly continue to read his works.

As always a fast Paced, gripping tale but I found the ending a bit rushed and a let down - hell was too easily overcome by Jack who after all was just a cop.

Had read this before, but had not realised, but it still kept me enthralled, ignoring the jobs till I finished it!

An early work by Dean Koontz and a very good one. A scary start quickly builds up momentum to an action packed conclusion in this fast paced supernatural tale. Best of all, written before the author started churning out formulaic stories always with a golden retriever and a gifted child in peril!
