4.0 out of 5 stars Kuffs, a comedy about growing up.
This was definitely one of my fave' movies of the 90's. Young tearaway George Kuffs (Slater)has just dumped his pregnant girlfriend, <Milla Jovovich> when his older, policeman brother Brad (Bruce Boxleitner - Babylon 5> is murdered. Hopeful for some payback, George joins the local police force in order to catch his brother's killer, whilst also attempting to...

I was only disappointed by the fact that this is not in widescreen format. One of Christian Slater's best movies and a movie typical of its genre, yet it's not given it's best format here.

This was definitely one of my fave' movies of the 90's. Young tearaway George Kuffs (Slater)has just dumped his pregnant girlfriend, <Milla Jovovich> when his older, policeman brother Brad (Bruce Boxleitner - Babylon 5> is murdered. Hopeful for some payback, George joins the local police force in order to catch his brother's killer, whilst also attempting to win back the girl, and in doing so learns to grow up somewhat in the process. As the billboard in the movie says quite aptly really, 'Life: what happens whilst you're making other plans.'
The soundtrack is also, just perfect for the film's different moods; 'I don't wanna live without you' may be the most moving song I've heard on a film. My only complaint is that it's not out on DVD!

4.0 out of 5 stars Too sureal to avoid, and too funny to sleep through, 5 April 2000

What a cool little (generally unheard of film). By now most of you know Christain Slater and will recongise many of his charater traits in this movie. If you are a fan of his this is a must, and if not you should still try it on for size as it is just plain and simply fun entertainment. Definately a pop-corn movie which won't bother your intellectual capacity, but is still very absorbing. OK, so it is now 8 years old, but the comedy is fresh and the action plentiful.

This action comedy about a young screw up who becomes a private cop looking to avenge his older brothers death was one of my favourite films of the 90's. Slater is at his best as the irresponsible George Kuffs who has to make some drastic changes to his life after his brother dies and he learns that his girlfriend is pregnant. There's also a great supporting cast which includes Milla Jovovich in a pre-Resident Evil role as George's girlfriend and Tony Goldwyn as his reluctant partner. If you're a Slater fan, or just enjoy a good action comedy then give this a try, you won't regret it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great action comedy, 5 July 2014

This review is from: Kuffs (DVD)
This action comedy is a overlooked gem of a film. Very much of it's time, with a soundtrack to match that late 80's early 90's action genre vibe, it features a music score from Harold Faltermeyer (Top gun, Beverley Hills Cop) and lots of quotable dialougue.

In fact this resembles the first Beverley Hills Cop in the fact that it mixes razor sharp humour with drama and just enough action to not be to over the top.

Even the story is similar, as Christian Slater as Kuffs, our reluctent and some would say screw up hero must chase down the villain that killed a loved one whilst fighting against by the book officials.

Slater plays likeable slacker Kuffs who inherits his brothers rent a cop, neighbourhood protection service after the brother is brutally killed by the local gang kingpin.

He then has to prove himself to not only his own staff but also residents and local police.

This sets up the plot perfectly as he makes comical mistake after mistake, but does it in an oh so cool manner.

Throw in some romance, some decent gun shoot outs, chases and explosions as well as a quirky twist in that Slater often turns to talk to the camera/audience mid whatever chaos is going on, and this is a really good, sparkling action comedy that perhaps was ahead of it's time, which is a shame, because much worse films got recognition and sequals, and this deserved both.

WOW i watched this film a long time ago and i had to buy it recently, just to re-live those funny moments.
this is a wacky comedy that will make you laugh from beginning to end. Milla Jovovich looks mighty fine as Christian Slater's girlfriend.
