4.0 out of 5 stars Oorah!
I think that Douglas' hero worship of the US Marines is really sweet. He seems to believe that they are capable of all sorts of extraordinary feats and will cheerfully sacrifice themselves in order to complete 'the mission'. 3.0 out of 5 stars Much as Expected
Any enjoyable couclusion, in so far as there can be a conclusion for a story on such a massive scale and with a major loose end .
Predictable and padded out with historical flashbacks which don't really seem to add anything by their repetitiveness.
The action is still as good as ever though.

I think that Douglas' hero worship of the US Marines is really sweet. He seems to believe that they are capable of all sorts of extraordinary feats and will cheerfully sacrifice themselves in order to complete 'the mission'. After a while, however, it becomes irritating when no opportunity is missed to tell us just how extraordinary the marines are. The story itself is original and huge fun. I like imaginative sci-fi and Douglas delivers in spades, genuinely surprising me with features of his world building. The pace is good and keeps you page turning, although he does have a tendency to interrupt the flow to reiterate what has happened before which is disruptive and unnecessary. However, I really like his books and am somewhat alarmed that after this I only have one other that I haven't read!

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting trilogy, 25 Jun. 2013
This review is from: Semper Human (The Inheritance Trilogy, Book 3) (Kindle Edition)
Have enjoyed Ian Douglas' trilogy, he has a good understanding of the science of black holes and has woven this into a good tale. Also some good character development. There is a lot of repitition that I found annoying after the flirst few times. But a good old fashioned sci-fi read.

I enjoy well written stories particularly if they are Sci-fi. I tried this book as it was offered on Amazon for the Kindle. I really enjoyed the writing style from this author, Ryk Brown. The story is absorbing and has a feel for the practical as well as the characters which play the lead roles. The story is on going from this volume and I can recommend all of them. If you like a good read and enjoy Sci-fi that isn't to out there, you will really enjoy this one. Give it a try.
