Like A Whirlwind

Another quality 2 disc release from 'One day Music'. This time taking in the rockin' sounds of Sam Philips label 'Philips International' which was formed in 1957. The tracks date from 1956 to 1960. There's no booklet but there's an intro and writing credits. The sound quality is very good indeed, an excellent job. The first disc is filled with great uptempo Rockabilly & Rock n Roll numbers, the pace never lets up nor does the quality. Some of the best tracks are from Charlie Rich (checkout his 'Smash' recordings from the mid 60's - they're fantastic - a real mix of R&B, Soul and Pop), Carl Mann, Cliff Thomas and Barbara Pitman. Disc 2 isn't nearly as good as disc 1 in my opinion, there's far too many slow numbers but again the standout tracks are from Charlie Rich and Carl Mann. A recommended budget compilation, if you're into Rockabilly, Rock n Roll, R&B all served up and tinged with country, then you'll enjoy this.
