This review is from: Conceived In Sewage (Audio CD)
Considering this has been out for nearly six months, I can't believe that no one has posted a review for this rather good album. Obviously there aren't going to be hundreds of people lining up to buy this but for anyone who has Devourment's other releases, this really is a must have.

There have been those who are complaining that this doesn't sound like old Devourment, but isn't that the point? Do bands have to sound the same on every release? I would argue they don't.

The first thing that hits you when you start listening to Conceived in Sewage is that is benefits from an excellent production. After messing up Cannibal Corpse's sound on their last few albums, Erik Rutan has finally got it right. Every instrument has its place and overall the sound is crushing.

The area of Devourment's sound which has caused so much argument is the slam aspect. This is still present but this time around they have chosen very carefully where to put them. This is not slam for the sake of it. The slams add to each song and it keeps the listener engaged knowing that there are plenty of time changes/ tempos coming up.

All in all a very strong release from Devourment. Don't be put off by the so called purists. It's good for a band to develop and allow their style to evolve.
